Hey Guys!
Put a deposit down on a 2006 MY05 Cooper S Checkmate with a JCW tuning kit.
Im confused as the compliance plate (silver plate pop-rivoted to the right hand side of the engine bay) says its a R50. Aren't all cooper s's R53?

And using the vin decoding article here:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item#faq_faq_vin_decode

the numbers indicate it is a RE32 = Cooper S (RHD)
which makes sense but where it indicates the year number it doesnt corralate with the plate that is on the car which indicates the year it was built (black plate on the Left hand side of the engine bay).
But when I plug my last 7 numbers into this website:
http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

it comes up with all the right information.

So, does this mean my silver compliance plate is incorrect? Or does it mean that the car was originally a cooper and has been converted to an s?

Pls help!

I just checked on my 2003 R53 MCS and the compliance plate says R50.

The chances of converting a Cooper to a Cooper S are about nill, far too much work and expense.

I know somone who converted a cooper to an S.
Pretty straight forward with the exception of there being no battery hole in the boot.
:D
