Yep... had it for 2 weeks and I'm into 'glitch' land. I've seen some emails on this site and MINI2 regarding the erroneous nature of these airbag warning lights and measures to fix them. Is there a definitive way of extinguishing the airbag warning light without having to have it serviced (at what price too!) I have seen that you can buy a gadget to reset the oil service and other service indicators and have seen posts about disconnecting the + lead off the battery and then reconnecting 15 minutes later and shorting to the negative.. but has anyone actually done this? I heard that BMW had extended the warranty to 10 years in the US, with this problem being a major catalyst in the decision. Has there been a move here in AUS? What is the warranty period out here anyway (mine being a second hand 2002, I'm expecting to be well out of luck!) Or should I just expect to pay through the nose each time my Cooper decides to bung on a light! So... any thoughts from someone who has been there/done that? Thanks  |

I would be paranoid with the bag going BOOM!!! every time it came on. Had a similar issue with a ford here and they took 18 months to isolate it to a piece of plastic that stopped the contacts mating properly and any slight bump would cause the contact to break, thus the light coming on...get the dealer to look at it in the first instance - they are always good to annoy...lol. common problem, I had a 02 Cooper and it was a reg occurance, BMW know it's a common fault and will cost you nothing to get it sorted, yes even out warranty just print off the MINI2 info in the fault and fixes forums |
