So I have brought my new (2nd hand) mini...what I'm trying to work out is what I do when I get a flat tyre?

It has the standard 15inch wheels, are these just standard tyres? Not run flats I take it...and what the hell is a "mini mobility system"? lol

Someone out there is mini land must have been stranded somewhere in this situation (most likely on a sat night on a freeway....km's from an exit....in the rain)

How hard is it to get yourself up and running again with this no spare little beastie?

mobility system is a can of goo and compressor basically. I just got rid of my runflats for normal tyres and carry around the same thing incase of a flat.

And it's easy enough to do?....

I take it after you get yourself back on the road you take you and your bini to the nearest beaurepaires for a proper fix?

Sorry the the q's, but (ashamed to say) I have never even had to change a tyre on my cars (am now 29) *hangs head in shame*....It's just one of those things, soon as I start to...someone comes along and helps i.e pushes me out of the way..... it's not that I do't have the knowledge to do it, I have just never had to put it into practice :)

yeah the goo will seal the punture, providing the hole isnt too big then you pump the tyre up, its just a fix to get you to the nearest tyre shop for a proper repair. The tyre shop dudes hate the goo though cause it makes a mess of their equipment :)

Hey Tricky - there were 13 BINIs went to Eden last October long weekend. Some knob let our tyres down in the night - the people with runflats drove to the servo and pumped their tyres up. There were a handful of us who had replaced the runflats so we were SOL. We had taken a spare but they let two of my tyres down.

Called MINI Assist. They got to work on it but were frankly pretty useless in such a remote area. After eleventy billion phone calls back and forwards they found a builder with a compressor who was going to come out to us. Remembered that I had not let my NRMA membership lapse, gave them a call and they were there quick smart with a compressor.

Moral of the story - now I carry a compressor and really must get some goo. I was under the impression though that if you have the 15 inch wheels that you should have gotten a space saver spare wheel with it. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Cheers,

poki

You're right poki; the Cooper with 15" non runflats should have a mobility kit in the boot.

Congratulations on the MINI Tricky, just remember to keep the revs above 4,000 for maximum grin factor :D

O....you've got me there...not 100% sure Poki...Pretty sure they come with goo and a compressor...but don't think there is a space saver in the back.
Was thinking last night I might upgrade my RACV cover to the highest they have :)

haven't seen runflats for the 15" wheels
I noticed in the UK recently that Dunlop are really pushing their runflats, so only a matter of time before they are affordable and available for every wheel size

and NO 2000 rpm will not do :P the Cooper changes character once you get it spinning and it is addictive :D

Or a 7000 rpm power slide around a hair-pin corner (with the ASC turned off) just to get the run flats chirping like mad. ( I think the neighbours hate me now) :(
