Have the new MINIs come down in price (2nd hand) at all yet?? I'm thinking about getting the missus a smaller car to drive to and from work (a newish car so don't bother suggesting an older mini!!) as the Commodore is a bit thirsty going from one end of Sydney to the other in peak hour!!

What should I expect to pay for a reasonable Cooper about 2 years old or so??

You should be able to pick up a reasonable one for around $30,000

I looked at a second hand one on the weekend in Newcastle and it was only $4,000 less than the price of a brand new one

they certainly hold their value, I have seen 2002 "S" for more than brand spanking new and it sold too, people will pay it so they dont have to wait.

How long is the factory warranty?

Resale values often hold up whilst they'e under warranty. After that, they CAN fall quite a bit. Will be interesting to see if this happens with the new mini.

The warranty is shockingly bad. 2 years standard with an option to buy a third year. This problem is ironic because there are a lot of BINI owners very dissappointed with the offers they are getting for trade in values. Maybe they are just being greedy though.

As more and more of them come off lease I think you will see the prices come down a bit. :D It could also a bad idea to buy one of the earlier build cars as some of them have been plagued with warranty problems.

Nah, is just a thought at the moment. We're building a new house and that takes all of my time/money at the moment. After we move in the missus wants to furnish the whole place, and I have to do landscaping and build my bar/BBQ etc so I'll probably be poor for quite some time yet!!!

I have applied for another job within my company and If I get it and can negotiate a car allowance then we may be in business

Hey, if you're already getting a home loan, what's another twenty grand for a new car?
