I have the second one you listed , built but not started , looks good in a clear shell so you can see all the goodies . It's front wheel drive too . The other (painted one) is the earlier Kyosho mini which was rear wheel drive . These are taken from page 6 (I think) of my collection thread in here ![]() I'd love to get my hands on a few of the Mini-Z mini's by Kyosho (other link in your original post) , could be fun on the garage floor ![]() sports850 wrote: The 049 powered Kyosho rear wheel drive mini , it was a lot of fun but incredibly fussy and messy . The nitro fuel disolves the tyres and seeps everywhere , the 049 motor doesn't have a carb but has a mixture screw and a flap on the exhaust and ran differently when hot as to when cold so would need constant fiddling . Was a lot of fun though and sounded like a banshee at around 12,000 rpm . From somewhere around 1993 from memory . It was my first effort at painting a lexan bodyshell so is a bit rough .
![]() This is the newer Kyosho mini , front wheel drive and 0.15 nitro powered , I've built it ready to run but will keep it as display only due to the mess the nitro made of the previous one (I love the engineering involved in it) . Looks fantastic on display with the clear shell . ![]() |

That looks great. Too many toys, not enough cash! |

I've almost bought one of those mini-Z's on ebay for a fraction of that price, only to find out after reading properly, it was the body ONLY. They sell those as well in blue, green and red if my memory's correct. |

And you didn't buy it anyway Bart ??? Would look good as a mockup in the display case on some wheels , do they do a pick up ? |

How long ago were the 049 powered minis available? I used to watch these sorts of things, but this one really slipped beneath the radar. |

I'm thinking 1993 or so from memory Mick , very basic , no throttle as such , just a valve on the exhaust to strangle the engine from full revs to almost running ![]() ![]() |

The throttled exhausts is an old concept (and cheap!), and worked rather well except at low settings the engines run pretty rough due to the low airflow through the wide open carb. |

it didn't work too bad once it was driving , also has a brass band brake that pulls against the flywheel so between the exhaust throttle and the brake it slowed enough , just a slight lag before the power getting down though when you opened the throttle . |
