Interesting... it takes me back to my Railways apprentice days. ![]() But, cast alloy isn't real strong compared to billet. These days, why not cut the shape out of alloy plate with a laser or water jet cutting machine, then machine the sides? More scrap, but much better mechanical properties in the finished product. |

its really easy to cast some parts. and i use all the old aluminium i can find around home. you won't believe what is all made of it and how much of it is normally thrown away. for the non critical parts like stubstacs or door handles i don't care what kind of strange alloy i create in my small furnace https://www.flickr.com/photos/mini_klas/14682533695/ pre 1983 door handle, and i only had 1 but needed 2 |
