hey guys.. doubt many of you know but ive got a 4efte project going also. anywho... I have just made up my dump pipe and having problems with the clearance between my dump and my EK civic radiator. The gap im finding is only about 5-10mm which could cause a bit of trouble with overheating the radiator. So I was wondering if people could post up any pics with their clearances between the dump and radiator. I know some have gone custom with their radiators so i guess this post is more for people like James and Pubudu who have used the civic radiator in their project. I am contemplating ceramic coating the dump to prevent some overheating.. All opinions welcome. |

My clearance between the dump and rad is probably about what you have. Never had any trouble with over heating the rad, but I thermal wrapped my dump to protect everything nearby. If you are really worried you could set up a heat shield but you should be ok. Thermal exhaust wrap is a easy option also. FYI My dump is cast iron though, which wont transfer heat as much as a mild/stainless steel dump pipe.

I've got about 5-10mm clearance between my Civic radiator and dump pipe. I have thought that it may be a problem but I think it'll be alright. I haven't driven my car yet though, still putting it all together. I reckon if it's a problem exhaust wrap would be a possible quick solution worth trying before ceramic coating (although ceramic coating can look amazingly good so that's a plus). I'm thinking that this sort of clearance is probably pretty normal for 4EFTE Minis with Civic rads. |

Ok sweet. Thanks for the reassurance guys. Heat wrapping slipped my mind, but ill have to look into that if it becomes a problem later. |

I too am expecting a similar clearance after having the rad and turbo in over the weekend. Doubt that sort of clearance will be a problem, but just remember that your radiator is not mounted to the same rubber mounts as the engine and maybe make provisions for engine rock. It prob. wont be a problem as i presume the clearance issue is left to right and the rock will be front to back. I also have the concern of efficiency reduction due to my intake pipe running across the back of the radiator (nothing like heating up your intake  )

I'd be more worried about running your intake above the exhaust manifold. It will get a lot hotter then the radiator. |

i got the same problem, the rad (civic one) is too close to the exhaust, I use exhaust wrap and an aluminium plate to separate the rad a lil bit, now im doing the cold pipe (fmic to inlet mani) passing under the main light in order to move the rad 2" away from the exhaust will add some pictures tomorrow when the work is alredy finished cheers |

Seems like the way to go.. On another note. Could everyone share what they have done in regards to radiator hoses? Im thinking 90deg bends with pipe joining the bends. Is that the only way its done? Please share. |
