Post subject:  exhaust for Gti swift mini
ok so i have bought a gti conversion.

im looking to buy a nice silent exhaust set up that wont effect performance to much.

with a small tip, i would like it to look pretty stock & not loud at all.

i hate that ricer sound. rc40 on a mini is nice but for this car i want to really silence it.

making that kind of system will i choke up the engine?

what kind of stuff would you recommend?

i was reading this? cross over system?

you could put a resonator on it. they don't affect performance too much. But generally, the quieter it is, the more restrictive it is. Thats why stock exhausts on modern cars are usually fairly quiet , and fairly restrictive.

Have you thought about an ajustable exhaust? I know guys running one of these ( http://www.xforce.com.au/about-varex-re ... uffler.php ) Mufflers on their turbo cars and set on silent are quieter than stock. But on open are alot less restrictive than stock.
I'm not sure any of these would be small enough to fit under a mini. You'd have to do a bit of research.

Just an option to consider :D

It's unlikely you will be running a cross over system on your GTi as they are designed for V8's... They allow the exhaust gases from both heads to combine (to an effect) to increase scavenging, etc...

The best place to talk to would probably be your local (trusted) exhaust joint. If you give them the specification you require they will be able to fabricate it for you. This should also come with some sort of warranty against it being too loud if you stipulate this before commencing.

Perhaps try the factory setup from a late rover 1.3, they have 2 mufflers and a catalytic converter, 1.75 inch pipe.

How big is the exhaust under your car?

A simpler solution is to install the biggest volume muffler you can fit under the subframe. I think the more area the exhaust gases have to expand into within the muffler, the less is transferred to the outlet. I did that with my old Skyline turbo which had a full 3" high flow exhaust including a single large volume muffler at the back and it was reasonably quiet and looked very subtle. Add a hot dog muffler as well under the Mini and it should be quiet and still be able to perform.

Bike exhaust won't do a whole lot.

You need a BIG muffler, with plenty of resonance dampening.
A resonator in front of the muffler will help quieten it down too.

Mine was a single off a GSXR 750, looks to be the same as the twin pipes on the Busa.
$80 incl shipping to your door is a good price for the pair.
I paid $50 to the local bike towie & he dropped it off at my house COD.

I disagree willy, especially when we are talking a G13b with an eight port 16 valve head.
The exhaust pulses are much different to the A series (and more similar to a bike).

This car already has a HUGE muffler and cannon tip, but it is just too loud.
Since 2005 all OEM bike silencers in Oz have had to comply to EU standards (except Harleys) so nice and quiet & good quality.
Not just an empty tin with a couple of perforated baffles like some "sports" aftermarket mufflers.
