Post subject: | 4AGE into clubman |
Hey, I just had a quick look on here but are there any 4AGE powered minis getting around? I know that i may be better of going 4EFTE but i like the idea of NA engines. Would it be 'hard' to put the age into a clubman? Im wanting to slowly work on an engine project for the mini over the next 2 years or so and am just having a look at options. Thanks Blake |

The subframe will be just as hard as in a roundy but as far as I can see it isn't an extremely hard job. I think if you can weld and grind you can do a conversion. |

yeh well me metalwork skills arent to bad. Im a little concerned about how much of the engine bay would need cutting away as i dont want to chop the car up to much. Thanks Blake |

I think from memory that are too wide. Not ever having measured one myself, i think they are over 900mm wide, while the 4EFTE sits in at around 840mm. |

Thanks for the replys. Ive heard they are wide but ive seen a few on the 16v mini club forums that look like they havent had the track altered. im going to go find me a 4age a take a measuring tape with me. |

ive found some dimensions for the 4age but dont know how reliable they are but: Wide = 860mm High = 590mm Im still going out to find one to double check this size but if it is only 860mm wide it should be alright |

Why not use a 5efe? Its exactly the same size block as a 4efte/4efe, even down to mountings and gearbox. The main difference being a different sized flywheel. Theyll bolt into the same subframes and use all of the same ancillaries. |

um i thought about the 5efe but yeh i thought the 4age would be a better engine choice for N/A |

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... e&start=15 http://www.16vminiclub.com/forums/showt ... t=4age+20v Here are a couple of pics of my 4age Mini I built in the UK and imported to Oz. It obviously has wider track but that was only to get it into a standard length round nose. From experience I thknk that it is possible in a clubman without changing the track. Good Luck Rich |

Hey Rich, Yeh i have seen your car and it looks awesome but this is what is making me wondering if i would need to alter the track. Do you have a build thread anywhere? Do you have some sizes of the engine? im assuming the 20v is the same size as the 16v (which is what i am looking at doing) Thanks Blake |

Sorry, No build thread! But if you look on the 16v Mini club site then there are at least 2 that you can look at. One from Dazzler and one from Spag. Both are 16v builds. The width of engine & box is about 890 - 900mm which is about the max you can do. You can definately do it in a clubman fairly easily without widening the track. ![]() |

Is that width with a 6 speed transmission or with a 5 speed? I 'think' the 5 speeds from the 16Vs are a bit shorter? |

Thanks Rich, Yeh ive had a read through all the threads on 16vminiclub. MMmM i found somewhere that the 4age 16v was only 860 wide which makes it about 20mm longer than the 4efte but i dont know how reliable the info is. I think i will have o find one and measure it. Im going to have a chat to an engineer over the next few weeks and see what they say about it. Thanks Blake |

It seems from the 16vMini forum that someone in South Africa is producing a subframe to fit this engine into a clubby. I would really like to fit one of these engines in a Mini someday. They go well in stock form, are bombproof reliable and there's elevnty-billion aftermarket bits for them. I have a 4AGE in my MR2. Might have to run out with a tape measure.... Cheers, |
