 Post subject: Oil filter

I need to remove the oil filter from my Starlet, It is not as easy as it sounds as it has power steering , I have tried all kinds of tools to remove it but just can't get a grip. Help

I never had a real problem changing the filter on my starlet, always got to it from under the car once the cover was removed and used one of these type of filter wrenches in the following link

Yep these 3 arm filter wrenches work great, I use one on the AU Ford (and the Mini) 8)

Or go into your nearest Toyota Parts Dept and buy the oil filter remover tool,appox $20.00. It fits all the 4cylinder engine.It fits straight onto the bottom of the filter,you use a straight extension bar onto the remover.

And once you get it off, make sure the new oil filter is not screwed on really tightly. Smear some oil on the rubber seal on the filter, spin it on by hand until it stops then give it another ~3/4 of a turn (~270degrees - can usually be done by hand).

I've used this procedure and never had a filter leak and 90% of the time can remove it by hand at the next filter change.
