Post subject:  Firewall modifications

Hey all,

I've tried a search which didn't help much so i thought i'd start a thread.

What i'm wondering is how legal are firewall modifications? i know people get around with webber boxes modded into the bulkhead but what about a bit lower. specifically the allspeed vauxhall conversion which requires a shallow box just above the steering rack to allow gearbox clearance. i can hunt down some pics if people aren't sure what i'm getting at.

i'm in the process of speaking with some engineers but it seems any question asked has to be answered during a consultation worth $$$

any knowledge will help

cheers[/img]

Have you tried calling them up?
The engineer i called gave me a bit of info on questions i had. He also grilled me on a few things i guess he would use to get rid of the timewasters. Things like driveshaft materials, approx costs, speedo drive and if i understood the scope of the modifications. Pretty much had a conversation and he lightened up then and gave me some good info.

Depends on the age of the car if it is pre ADR crash tests ie 1970 it should be OK if it is later than that you may have trouble. Best to speak to an engineer.

My enngineer seemed happy to chat. I think I had 2 20min conversations with him before I even arranged for him to come and have a look. Shop around, some guys are great with car mods and it's what they do, some aren't keen as it may be 'small stuff' for them, others wont touch it at all. One guy told me if I was sticking a V8 in a torana he'd be interested, but for what I was doing there was no way.

Hope this helps.
