I tried to double-check but everything else just seemed to quote the same article so nothing to compare it to. I did find this though, which seems to indicate the top pipe is the front, not %100 reliable though.
And this thread, which seems to indicate the same. And it does say they were ass about and caught people out.

It is definitely a stepped bore, sounds like there were a number of options in the UK, some weren't stepped, but this one is.
I still cant get my head round how the smaller bore is better for the front brakes.
But in this case I don't have to know it just has to be right. So I'll re do them.

I am yet finalise mine but I think I finally have 3 options that would work, (plus a lot that won't) depending on where you compromise.
