| Post subject: | Driveshaft equaliser thingy? |
Im looking to get one of the driveshaft equalising things. But ive got no idea what theyre called. They move the tripod joint out so the 2 shafts are the same length. Does anyone know what theyre called and where to get one? I think mad morrie has one in his, but i cant find the thread. Cheers, Joe |

Hey Joe, What you want to look/ask for is a layshaft from a Toyota 4AGE 20V engine (old Corolla etc) - both MadMorrie & Slinkey have used them, and so am I... Have a look at my blog posts for more info on mounting it : http://mearcatmini.blogspot.com/2009/09/4age-layshaft-support-bearing.html and http://mearcatmini.blogspot.com/2009/09/layshaft-bearing-custom-bracket.html Once the layshaft is in inserted, the (custom) driveshaft lengths will end up within about 70mm of each other - whch is pretty good consdiering the standard 4EFTE shafts are ~220mm different. I'm currently waiting on a mate to get some test pieces cut from perspex to see if the my layshaft mount bracket design is correct (before getting them laser cut in steel and welded) but once the design is confirmed, I can get 2 of each cut if you want to speed things up for you. |

You'll need a layshaft from the 20V Toyota as said, the model is AE101 (the model of the Corolla). Not sure about interstate but I get my 20V parts from Sleeka Spares in Poorake here in SA. My engine is centrally mounted so that both my driveshafts, with the equaliser shaft, are about 300mm long. I must confess, I didn't build my subframe, "92" on this forum did and paid special attention to mounting the engine for equal drive shafts. However, due to this my engine is more 'cramped' in the engine bay as it is not in the optimal postion for mounting things such as alternators etc. |

As you said I have used the 20v shaft on mine. I was going to post a pic of the bracket I made up, but I went out to take it and it is in the car at the moment so you can't really see it. It looks pretty much like the one mearcat is building. I tried to centre the engine as much as possible based on the the inner joints and I think my driveshafts will end up pretty much equal length. Thanks for the advice. I knew it was a name like that lol. I think ill be going to a few wreckers to try and find one. Does anyone know what they usually go for? |

I paid 50 bucks for mine I think. But it's simply a matter of getting one. 20 valve Corolla's are not too common here. |

I think I paid about the same for mine. I got mine from toyospares (http://www.toyospares.com.au) and they just let me sift thru a pile of shafts to find the one I wanted. Luckily it had 20v written on it in texta, that shortened my search a bit. Madmorrie |
