Post subject:  space frame dimensions

does anyone have a set of dimensions to build a basic space frame chassis for a mini? not super fussed about the front subframe area as im going to fabricate my own unit but i would like to build it so that a shell fits on it rather then just guessing and failing..

ive been offered a hayabusa engine which i just cant say no too  and rather then a sports sedan im just going to build a hillclimb car to run formula libre in

There are not real dimensions as the space frame has all the suspension mounts on it. If you go rear engine then start reading up on suspension design. The front and rear can be constructed to what ever you want.
My car has "A" shaped top arms and single with radius rod on the front. I made the up=rights and fitted 10 1/2" discs.
The rear is 4 link set-up and again made my up-rights.
The important thing is to make the suspension fully adjustable. Ifyou use spherico rod ends for the suspension pivots they are very expensive. My car has about $2000 worth on it.
The roll cage should be welded as part of the space frame and basically just drop the body on. I mounted mine basically under the door sills and across the shell roughly where the rear seat was.

I'd think you'd be better off starting with a mini shell and then building the entire frame inside that. That way you know it will fit properly

cheers guys, the engineering side of it doesnt worry me that much, just the general shape the that body will sit over, i obviously wouldnt know anything compared to you david so dont be shocked if you get some pm's regarding setups of steering and shock absorber points. i was actually thinking a central drivers seat with a formula ford rack or something.. meh all fun to play around with.. but yeah i really need the main hoop, front hoop etc measurements. i might order that book too that looks like a good read!

cheers
