| Post subject: | Starlet engine conversion question |
Hi, just wondering for those who can help, if i were to buy a starlet half-cut and wanted to use as much of it as possible for a conversion, what original mini items do i need to keep in/on the mini it self, i.e window wiper motor, brake fluid bottle and lines... um, i think thats all i ever seen in the engine bay of a converted mini, any other thing please let me know.. Pulled the engine out today, which took me the whole day, but its progress. Here are some pic's

-clutch master/brake master & lines are all standard mini -wiper motor -brakes/suspension std mini |

depends on how far you want to go mate.. I used the starlet clutch master and also the wiper motor. makes the whole wiring thing easy.. and looks better I think |

To give the Mini a more modern feel, at a minimum you could retrofit the Mini with the main instrument cluster (speedo, tacho etc) and steering column/surround. A bit of customising involved with welding the two steering colunms together; and brackets to hold the cluster in place (oh and recalibrating the speedo for smaller Mini wheels) but you just add those custom items to the big list of other custom things to do with this conversion. |

hey there, Clutch master installation was a piece of piss.. I just modified the pedal leverage lengths to make sure I get full stroke on the master cylinder. I would trust that unit over the standard mini one any day! Anything toyota is good  which why I used the wiper motor off the starlet too
I used the starlet dash as well. Makes wiring up very simple.

best of all.. you can do this with the starlet dash!! available from ebay

the actual reservoir was from a Honda civic. You won't be able to use the starlet one since the fill cap will on the wrong orientation. Just go to a wreckers and get yourself any remote type reservoir I got a small teflon bushing turned up to press fit into the hole into which I tapped a thread and just connected a brass fitting with a barbed fitting to take the rubber hose. I made a small bracket up for the reservoir and fitted it to the master cylinder body. It is working to date with no issues |

Nice, was it difficult fitting the dash in? did you have to trim the sides to get it in or does it fit in snug.. Thanks for the photos. Ash. |

its not an easy task mate if you want to do it nicely. I had to cut a new clear cover using acrylic sheet since the original one is all curved up. The black cowling I had to trim off severely since it jotted out a lot. The panels either side of the console I made up myself with a bit of fiberglass + expanding foam to contour it nicely. Your next issue would be the speedo. You will have to either get a mechanical reduction box or do what I did ( read my thread) |
