I read in the mini world mag this month
bout a lad in england that slammed a 16v dohc vtec donk
in his clubby...
Anyone know of any how to's or in depth articles on the specifics on
what needs to be modded etc when doing this conversion

Have a look at Watsons Rally site in the UK, they do a kit but be warned it is not cheap and you will need to talk to a local authorised engineer about what they will accept

There is a guy from Adelaide (?) that has already done a VTEC, B16A conversion to his clubman.

Cant remember the gents name, but it is a white clubbie from memory, and by all accounts did a very good job.

Ask around.

Pretty sure with this one he made his own subframe rather than use the UK or the US kits.

Don't know either of them personally though.

I think I read somewhere that the main issue with the off the shelf US & UK kits is that they widen the track so are a no no (I could be wrong though).

Massive forum for mainly vtec and vauxhall conversions. Try most of the uk websites, putting a vtec is big over there.
Allspeed engineering is another uk based company that does vtec conversions.

I'm fitting a B16A in a standard length roundy. Shouldn't be too much of a problem with a Clubby, except that the steering rack on a right hand drive car is in the way of the Honda gear box. But I think that you should have enough room with a Clubby anyway.

I had a look at Peter's Clubman a couple of weeks ago and it is a very neat conversion.
He originally had a Watson subframe but it would of ended up to wide as I think they use Metro bits, he ended up making his own subframe which the Engineer approved.

It is his daily driver and just looks like a normal mini with a set of mags, a real sleeper.
Its a shame his photos are no longer on his previous posts. I did take a few of it which I may be able to post.

at the moment the vtec is looking like the best idea closely followed by the starlet turbo and the 1275 hmmmmmmmmm
So there isnt much cutting and welding and moving crap to chuck a standard civic motor in a clubby????

Ummm...no. There is lots of cutting and welding and moving and cursing.

Why bother with a stock 1.6L econobox civic motor? They make like 106HP factory. Weigh much more, are larger as well.

A 1275 with some work will make 106HP reliably easily.

there's no way to do an engine conversion cheap - I doubt if anyone would have completed the job for under $10k even when doing 99% of the work themselves
