HI guys, The mini is back from the paint shop after the touch ups etc and she's lookin sweet. I have done all the small bits and pieces needed to make her tidy but one BIG problem remains!.. THE LOUD EXHAUST! Its in no way loud as some of the commodores that are flying around but the boys at RTA are sure to fail me as soon as they bring in their sound level meter. its a 2.5" straight through system. How can I "temporarily" reduce exhaust tip noise? ![]() I've heard people putting in a perforated plate inside with a few tack welds to reduce the effective area.. I did this but not much of an effect! Maybe I put too many holes! ( I put approx 13 holes of 10mm diameter) Any suggestions welcome! its gotta be done tomorrow! I've got her booked at noon on Friday Really don't want to be fitting new mufflers at this stage Cheers Pubs |

![]() It'll do bad things for your power delivery (actually considering you're going over the pits, make that "good things" ![]() ![]() |

thanks mate.. power delivery is the last thing I am concerned about.. as long as it doesn't shoot out bits of steel wool out the exhaust! |

If you weld your perforated plate into the exhaust pipe just downstream of the extractors, then pack the end of the extractors with steel wool it'll stay in place and probably sound heaps quieter ![]() |

I have already welded a perforated plate inside one of the flange connections so nothing can be seen from the outside. The RTA guys can easily spot an 'extra' piece of steel between flanges! ![]() Time to head to Bunnings and get some steel wool! I'll pack it upstream of this plate so as you said, so it will hold it in place. I'm going to be going there on low boost setting anyway... |

Mine is pretty quiet and just a straight through 2.5" system as well, the turbo blocks most of the noise. My induction sound, turbo spooling and BOV are heaps louder than whats coming out the back ![]() |
