Post subject:  A couple of 4efte questions....

Hi everyone.

I've lurking and stealing info from here for a while and am just about to dive into my 4efte-clubbie project that ive had sitting here for a while.

I had just a couple of questions I hoped someone here might be able to help me with.

The first is more of a Starlet specific question but I thought id ask here since you lot seemed to be fairly 'in the know'. My half cut is a 92 GT and has had a few things stolen from it while it was waiting to be bought. Things like the gauge cluster and steering arm I dont mind but one of the things taken was the damn fuse box.

It was just cut out of the engine bay leaving a sizable number of wires just hanging in their looms homeless. The lot i bought the half cut only saw the box was missing after id payed for it, and after giving me a (very small) discount also gave me a complete loom out of another starlet that included a fuse box.

My question is... are the fuse/relay boxes interchangable between the GTs and non GTs as I have no way of knowing what model this loom has come from, also I suspect it to be an australian starlet. I've had no luck trying to find 2 wiring diagrams to compare and thought I had nothing to lose by asking here.

And then my second question, which is marginaly related to the above.... can anyone list or point me at a list that has the bare minimum startlet wiring needed to run the car in a mini. Or more importantly, how much of the ECU pinout can I clean up?

I wont need any gauge wiring, lighting, A/C etc obviously. But how much of what was in the fuse box do I need to run the car?

If either of these question seem a bit silly or nieve I appoligise. I just fear I may end up wiring up a starlet motor from scratch and don't want to waste time 'fixing' parts of the loom I wont need.

Thanks all.

Ive seen those images before, and I still cant read them. For me to be able to tell if the boxes are interchangable I need to be able to clearly see the colours and lables.

I have a better res diagrame for the GT Ive got from another forum in english so if i have to make a loom from scratch I can, but id love to be able to wire this fuse box in and just mod the original loom to suit the conversion.

If the fuse box I have is not the same and i cant use it, replacing the fuses would be fairly easy using a diagram and matching wires with an aftermarket fuse holder. But what relays are housed in the box and how many of them do I actually need to run the car?

I had a similar problem of no fuse box. (also only the engine loom because I didn't have a front cut only engine/box combo)

I bought a EP82 4efte fuse box and it was slightly different to the loom I had. Unfortunately it seems they changed looms, fuse/relay layouts and ecus fairly regularly with the 4efte so many have different plugs and wiring layouts. :?

The way I wired the fusebox up was to basically follow the wires (using continuity tester) and what diagrams I had and join up what fuses/relays I needed. Many aren't used in my car.

I'm but in Katherine in the NT. About 330km south of Darwin.

Thanks 77 Clubby Van. I think I'm going to end up just cutting the plugs off the engine and just wire them to the ECU from scratch.

I don't suppose you can remeber which of the relays you ended up retaining?
