Post subject:  Pro-motive R1

I've read bit and pieces in regards to motorcycle engined mini's and have spoken to an engineer today(recommended on the forum) in regards to the Pro-motive R1 front wheel drive kit. He is under the belief and he has viewed the kit on the net that it should not be that difficult to comply in NSW as long as the kit has been professionly constructed. Reverse is the main concern, but emisions are not an issue pre 74. Brake, noise test and structual adequacy are the only tests to be passed. So is anyone in disagreement with this? :?
Pete
PS Having issues between turbo 998 or the above. The way things are going I'll still be stuffing around 2010

Looked at the thread in regards to the R1 mini and the engineer that I spoke to RTA approved Peter Gillard (nice bloke) interprets the ADR's as if the engine being fitted has no ADR requirement then it falls back on the vehicles emissions, which are also no existant pre 74. Does the engineer have the final word???

I've read on ozclubbies that you can get a free test done at some RTA office in Parramatta (somewhere west anyway). So even if you had to comply, they can be made to cheaply! If there was the same interpretation of those rules up here I would do it in a flash.

Reverse, is not difficult. Just mount a starter motor somewhere.

I think with the Pro Motive kit you might try and procure the diff he's made rather than the whole kit. It all looks very basic to put together.

Go for it! Please, set a benchmark for us all to hit!

I couldn't see that he would sell me the chain drive seperate or if he did he would say 3250 pounds and I'll throw the sub and cradle in for free  The engineer said as far as the reverse goes it just has to be operational, but not half arsed (guess he'd decide what was satisfactory)
The guy from pro-motive is going over his figures and shipping costs and will get back to me shortly(hopefully) Wait and see. Almost forgot they are close to having a reverse which will attach to the original kits finalised.

I reckon if it has got a reverse, it is not a bike  Then again I also frown upon electric starters

Ask the RTA what the deal would be. Tell them the facts you've been told and hopefully they will agree.
If not you can still build it and have an awesome track car  or just glue a mini rocker cover on top and get one of the mechanically challenged people at the transport depo to register it as a standard 998cc mini

I reckon go for it and try hard to get it passed because it would be mega super fun awesome :D

Spoke to the mod section of the RTA today and the gentleman I spoke to agreed 100% with the engineer in regards to emissions and everything else I was told. Hopefully pro-motive will get back to me shortly with a firm price.

See if you can get him to commit it to paper or via email at the very least.
