Post subject:  Small Bore Twinky Conversion up-date now with video

Ok,,, now my small bore version of the Bimmer Twinky conversion is well under way & i`ve some good news about the off-set boring & cyl head chamber/bore alignment & the clearance of valves to bores etc & i am typing a couple of hours on my build guide every night

soon i should have that little donk running & te build guide complete

it`s amazing how much time goes into a little explanation & if you can understand i really need to make this guide quite easilly understandable by the average Joe/Jane Doe with virtually no mechanical knowlege &/or experience,,, so it`s quite an "in-depth" read

anywas, just thought i`d keep you all up to date on the progress of the small bore Twinky build & i`m actually a little choofed (happy) knowing they`re going to work out nice & sweet.

cheers, Have a good weekend , i`m off to Byron :-)

I`ve bored mine 120 thou oversize & bored each bore off-set at 45deg angles
It will all be outlinbed in my build guide

Yeah, well,,, the small bore twinky is comming along nicely,,, we`re about to fly cut the pistons & fit it all together

Had a fun time with this little thing,,, i really didn`t want to bother doing it but soooo many people have asked me & sooo many people don`t want to go to the trouble & expense of buying a 1275 engine to "Twinky-ise" ,,, so i just thought what the heck, i`ll do it ...& it`s certainly working out pretty good, even if i do say so myself :-),,, i think it will surprise even me when it`s done too :-)

I`m making up a carby plenum chamber just to whack an SU carb on there first, then i`ll add all the injection stuff at a later date,,, i`m only doing this so i can cost up a pile of plenums to be made for anyone interested in just getting there twinky running quite cheap to start with, allowing time to save for a decent computer ,wiring, fuel system at a later date

so,,, stay tuned, it`s all going well & i`ll report back in another week or 2 with (hopefully) a fairly complete small bore twinky donk , ready to fit into my road mini ,,, & therfor it should also give me the final info needed to complete my Twinky build guide too

cheers
Matt

what are you using to temporarily block up the injector holes? i was going to get mine welded but i want to add injection later(using bike carbies to start)

Hey there miniboo,, i have 4 old teflon plugs i made from left over bits after making full floating gudgeon pin plugs for a customer`s race mini engine,,, so i`ll stick them in the holes & bolt a bar (piece of angle) across the fuel rail bolt holes with 4 little legs welded onto them as retainers (so to speak) & it`ll be a "Just for now" thing cause i have all the injection set up here from the original engine i built so i was just going to run the carb for a litte while to make sure it all works & is tuned & clears things etc, then i can rip all that off & have the plenum chambers duplicated & while all that`s happening i can just stick all the injection stuff onto it & have a little play tuning that lot too :-)

It`s comming along really well & i`m pretty stoked actually,... ive had so many people from all over the world contact me because they`ve been having heaps of trouble making their small bore twinkys work,,, so i`ve been really glad to help them out,,, altho some of them needed another engine block cause they`d gone too far & done the worng thing from being given false info from other people who havn`t actually done a small bore twinky yet

so, all is good ... how`s yours comming along???

Well ,,, this is a pic of the basic Bimmer Twinky conversion kit (picture attached below)......... i`m so sorry for the stuff around with the time it`s taken to get this pic up but my bigpond server somehow allowed my Bigblog page pics to get corrupted & i had a major stuff around to just be able to delete & upload all the pics again) :-( ,,, anyways,,, apart from what`s shown in the pic you also get a timing belt ... you also get a left hand engine steady bar bracket,,, & an "S" bend shaped bottom radiator hose adaptor pipe,,, all the oil seals,,, all the bolts,,, nuts,,, washers,,, set screws to bolt it all up,,, Plus 2x cast iron threaded mini head stud hole plugs.

The build guide text is all done now,,, i also have most of the photos sorted now,,, i have some video footage but i`ve actually decided to video most of the imjportant parts of the actuall build of the small bore Twinky that i`m doing at the moment,,, & i will complile all that lot up onto a video CD over the next few weeks ... & all that will become the complete "Build Guide"...... so anyone who`s interested,,, &/or anyone who or is contemplating doing this Bimmer Twinky Conversion will not only be able to read it through, see all the pics of all the mods needed in absolute detail,,, but will also be able to watch one actually being built.... i don`t believe anyone in the world could possibly produce a more comprehensive build guide of a Bimmer Twinky than this one..., SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!
(& that is actually a fact)

I must appologise--> sorry for the delay,,, but i also must say that sales of the Twinky kit have been going so well that it looks like i will need to do another Batch of them shortly,,, only 8 of the original 30 kits left now.

i`m pretty dam choofed about it :-) after a pretty slow start & a rather relaxed inital response, it looks like the word is out well & truly now... there are more people doing this conversion now than i first expected.

Thanks for all the support lately,,, as you may (or may not) have noticed, there has been a slight problem lately with "One" particular person trying to cause me trouble/grief,,, so if anyone has any doubts or is interested in the facts of that particular matter,,, then please don`t hesitate to ask,,, i have absolutely nothing to hide about the matter,,, I have been so open & honest about this whole project & anyone who knows me will assure you that i have put more energy, time, money, blood sweat & tears into this than anything else in my entire life.

&&&&&&---->>>>>> looks we will be kicking off an Aussie-Twinky Club shortly :-)

thanks again for all your encouragment & support... especially the last few weeks, i really appreciate it.

some one asked if i`d lost a thong & i siad "Nah, i found one" :-)

& i stole this from the BoostCruise site,,, sorry but i don`t know who`s photo it is , but it`s a good one so i thought i`d post it here for any of you who missed the Muster--> I hope it`s ok with the owner???

The one on the left is a 16v big bore & the one on the right is an 8V small bore

Might give you all a better idea of the simplicity of this package,,, well it looks neat & simple after a few mods are done to get it to bolt on :-) Anyways i`ll be ordering another bundle of pulleys next week & have already talked with my Machinist to gear up for another run of maybe 10 or 20 more sets of plates, bosses & flanges etc , so i`ll see how long this next batch takes :-(

With that last pic the 16v head on the left looks smaller in the tappet cover area, is it?
Also if you fitted an 8v to an engine would a 16v simply bolt on at a later date?

Post subject:

Hey Kenno,,, the cam covers are a different shape that`s all,,, not sure if it`s actually small or not,,, seems the same-ish size to me... & the difference btween the 16v & the 8v with regards to swapping them later is the pistons need the fly cuts to suit each head (4 valves or 2) & the combustion chambers differ also (16v is about 28cc & the 8v is only 21.5ccs) But if you`re going to turbo it then the swap would be pretty simple because there`s no need for pistons to be fly cut as you just cut the tops of them off to the desired height to lower the comp ratio & so if you went 8v to start then when you fit a 16 v then comp ratio would be just a tad lower so you can run more boost with the 16v with no problems :-)

so the answer is "not really for N/A" ... But a definate "YES" for turbo applications

Oh!!! & just swap front head plates to suit when you do it...

:-)
