as far as i know its because its a higher capacity can easily get more power with fewer mods and has a nice power delivery (im led to believe) aside from the fitment extras they are a very nice motor

I would say that it is more likely that the 4efte did not make it out of Japan so the UK and US mob only got the Hondas.

I'm not getting involved in debate about power but you've got to be kidding meeni.

You can fit a 4EFTE in with pretty standard Mini track, most all VTECS need a WIDE track which is frowned on out here (except for track work).
Also in USA or UK you can register whatever, here it just ain't so, anymore... :x

I agree, Meeni has got to be kidding, how many VTECS in a Mini would make 200+ WHP with all stock internals.

I chose the B16A because they are more available here in Canada and I know that VTEC Minis are done a lot so there is obviously something good about them. And 180 hp is not bad for NA. I would have rather gone with Toyota being the Toyota fan that I am but I want to be able to find parts if I need them. With the reading that I've done while researching my project I understand it's harder to fit the VTEC in a right hand drive Mini because of clearance issues with the Honda gearbox and the Mini steering rack. I understand how it would be a problem after fitting my engine, especially if you wanted a stock length round nose Mini.

Not sure about the space restrictions in a mini, but a mild turbo on an otherwise std 1.6 litre vtec can easily break 200 whp.

300 hp from a honda with a supercharger is reliable for street use and stock internals, there is a couple of guys running them in Lotus Elise up in the southern tablelands and they are very quick

Yep even a b16A with 8psi will net more than a 4efte on 16, simply a case of capacity. The only issue is that trying to get a turbo in a VTEC conversion is very difficult coz there is even less space than with 4E, I think I have seen it done and he got around 300hp. Also most VTEC's that are even remotely modified I see are flip fronts and I am afraid when you start taking the front off you start to get into a different league, and anything is possible, and no comparisons can be made.

Also B16A and B18A (e.g. in the type R integra) gets around 145 hp atw, the 180 and 192 hp quoted are all at the crank...

1 and 2 and 3 and 4...

Cheers

Matt

K20A supercharged would be awesome.

Shame we cant legally put a K24 in a road registered Mini over here.

are we not forgeting the fact that it is a variable valve timing motor and it just plain sounds good lol

you can get MASSIVE power from B16/B18's but goodluck getting that power in a mini. It's just not going to look right IMO and would struggle to be neat.

With a well built 4EFTE you can get 250HP easily and it's a lighter setup with much easier packaging in comparison to the VTEC Conversions.

It's not an easy task to even fit the motor in a RHD Mini, and adding turbo piping and intercoolers would make it a nightmare.

Variable Valve Timing, VTEC etc is a total wank on the road. It is useless, even the VTEC fanboys recognise that to get serious power they need to go forced induction.

I drove a S2000 for a year and it had heaps of power, but it just wasn't usable day to day you had to wait until 6000rpm for 'VTEC' to kick in and it was a long wait at town speeds. eg first went to 60km/h if you were doing 70km/h hour and put your foot down in second it was a long wait before it started to haul ass. You always had to make sure you were in the right gear and think, it was a great drivers car but no matter how much you tried there wasn't the right gear available all the time.

The F20C is an awesome motor on the track and in it's own right, but you just don't get to use the power and winding out 2nd gear takes you to 110km/h so the rest of the gears are useless and you're already in lose your licence territory.

the 4EFTE in comparison even in 4th at 60km/h pulls very well and any gear is the right gear.

Do what you want but base it on facts and not just honda fanboy propaganda. I've had 2 Honda's and like them a lot, great build quality, cracker engines but they are not the end all be all that the honda vtec yo boys would make you believe.

Pfft, VTEC. The marketing guys at Honda excelled when the engineering department described to them how a second set of cams lobes work at a FIXED point.

Fixed = Variable. "Brilliant!", "Another line of coke for everyone".

I am not about to tell which is better I have the stock b16a vtec in the mini.Because its running 165x12s and in the honda would have been on 15s its doing around 4000rpm at 100kph in 5th gear it will run down to 1500rpm in 5th and still pullaway without any drama. Its a very flexable package in any gear a real sleeper heaps of fun to drive so whatever engine you go for tyres and traction are going to more of a hassle than the choice of engines 4efte and vtec are both great

mini regards

I dont actually know what the 4EFTE can make. I do know that my mate has Aus' fastest fwd. B16A turbo,

Rigoli bet him his ute that my mate would never break 10sec 1/4 mile.
He ran 9.93 1/4 mile on 34psi boost ;) Lucky their mates and it wasnt a real bet

He has just upgraded turbo, cams, exhaust, etc

Yes, now this is an all out drag car. It now revs to 10,500rpm and he launches at 8000rpm - tyres at 5psi.

Its still a Honda B16A though, and still stock bottom end. (Getting a little tired now)

He has around 570hp at the wheels.

The Honda is harder to fit and bigger I believe - takes more work to get it in, and I think the angles for driveshafts, suspension, track, etc are all more agressive doing the honda conversion compared to 4EFTE.

Oh, by the way, I know where there is a Starlet GT... been sitting in the same spot for 5 days... hrm, wonder if anyone would notice if I took the front half of it off

By the way, the CRX Best time to date 9.93 @ 147mph (on a smaller turbo and standard cams), Current Sport Front Mod Record holder for ET & MPH, reset ANDRA Front Runner national record for et and mph in 2007, 2007 ANDRA Front Runner championship winner.

He is now running ront Mod Honda CRX drag car, Honda B16a vtec engine, GT3566R turbocharger, Motec M400 ecu with data logging, M&W cdi ignition, OS-Giken twin plate clutch, pro-drive drag drive line, pro-drive axles, cv-joints, hubs and intermediate shaft, full moly cage, simpson parachute, lexan windows, simons wheels, mt drag slicks.

Not sure what he will do down the 1/4 now...

And yes, definately not a street car and would be crap on a curved track - just showing what can be done with a B16A is all...

I would honestly love to know what the most powerful 4EFTE makes, how it goes 1/4 mile etc...

Cheers,
Peter
