Hi all,

Well I bit the bullet and bought an Adaptronic e420c ECU, loom and 3 bar MAP sensor. These are due to be installed by Autotech on 2 June. Hopefully this should solve the 10:1 AFR and cure the headaches and general crookness that comes with even an extended drive...It will also be interesting to see what kind of HP figure I get given that last two dynoers (technical term) both indicated that the fuel ration was really cutting output.

Also I bought the last fast fours because it had a starlet in it. Did you see that he was getting only 215bhp at wheels with 23psi going through it. I am wondering what the deal was? I would have thought closer to 290?

I'll let you know how it goes and what they are like (reliable, easy install etc) and power change. Also as the way in Canberra a $2-400 increase in cost compared with installation quotes in Sydney.

Good to hear matt - will you be ready by the 12th July for the Dyno? :)

Is this Autotech in Granville? Did they sell you the ECU?

Power figures are going to be different for everyone on any dyno - what type of dyno was your car run on before? Should be a few starlets running at the dyno day so should be able to see true relative power outputs, who knows what they're really making though - only way to tell for sure is the strip.

Nah Autotech in Canberra, they primarily do Alfas strangely enough but do racecars etc etc. This is where I got it dyno'd last time (137kw atw on 15psi). So at least when they dyno it this time it will be on the same dyno (dyno dynamics). Yeah I am certainly hoping that they have it done in a month, they are pretty good so I am think drop off Monday pick up before the end of the week which will give me three weeks for shake down to ensure it is working properly. Should be interesting.

Yeah once this is done WSID here we come and as you say it will be good to compare relatively as this is best comparison (on the day like with like).

Incidently, what made you decide on Adaptronic over other brands?? Price, local distributor, ease of tune etc??

I think he is getting an Adaptronic, the Autronic is probably a bit higher up the ladder. Will be interesting to see how you go Matt.

Yeah Tricky a combination of price, features bang for buck really. As stated these do self learn where as a lot of more heavily price items don't. Plus they had already done an installation on a 4EFTE so I have the basic ECU file already to go so setting up should be much easier. Plus I have generally heard good things so I thought I would support some Aussie up and comers. Also I was going to go Microtech but heard a few bad stories.

As for Autronic, Haltech etc too rich for my blood. The kidney I had on ebay is funding this particular purchase. Also I think they are a bit of overkill on this as I am getting good power figures anyway and simply want to clean up the fuel ratios and generally have the flexibility when I do modifications.

Well as with everything that I come into contact with (just call me sexy fingers - everything I touch gets fu---d), this has been a long and arduous install. They didn't get it running till today (ECU would not talk to laptop). But at least it is running and on the dyno. I have asked him to put in the new MAP sensor but being a 3 bar obviously the inputs will be different which may mean redoing the fuel map! The other thing is I got quoted 1400-1600 install, dyno & tune. I am going to give the boss a ring today to try and see what his thoughts are as I feel I shouldn't be penalised for the delays in getting the ECU to "turn on".

What are other peoples thoughts?

Sad to hear Matt, i agree - you should not be penalised for their incompetence. They should stick by what they quoted you and get the job done.

Did you change your mind about the MAP sensor? was it discussed previously?

You always intended to run the 3-bar MAP sensor did you not?

If so, they knew that, and you had an agreement.

Not your fault if they are so incompetent that they couldnt organise a fart in their pants.................. :shock:

Well things seemed to have turned around. The car is running quite well (cold starts are a bit of problem but not much). But alas only 110Kw at the wheels (possibly on 15psi!), whereas previously I was running 127 on 12psi. Maybe someone can correct me (and this has been the advice from several sources) but I thought if I get the AFR right, up from 10 to 12:1 I should make more power or certainly maintain it and get better response.

I turned up and as soon as I saw the tune I knew something was wrong. I drove it and it was definitely down on power. But Eddie who was doing the tuning agreed readily to doing another session on Sat. So I turned up at 10am and we spent 2 hours. He was getting better and better results (up 10Kw), but alas it was found that my crank angle sensor (which is inside the distributor) has gone bung and basically the timing goes all over the place at high revs (the rev counter goes all over the palce). So I have to get that fixed and go back. So not really a result either way.

Eddie did say that on that level of boost he should be able to get in excess of the previous figure of 136Kw. I'll think it just needs more work but we will get there eventually? Oh and I made sure they stuck to their price. $1500, right between the quoted figures.
