I haven't seen it yet but my mate spotted it last week. I may see it this weekend. Just down the road there was another mini in the Gun Performance shop. Anyone know that one? M |

It`s a light blue "S",,, Pretty stock looking, but it`s plated as a std mini (of some sort, i can`t remember the body number but still,) It`s a shame really , cutting up a perfectly good "S" just to stick a jap donk in there,,, shame shame shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But anyways..... Pete from Custom said something about it being Craig Lowndes mini , but maybe there is a std model craig lowndes out there yeah? Maybe he just got the name mixed up??? I`ll ask them again when i blow up my next Kombi gearbox ![]() Dave (The Fabricator there) is a lovely fella & i`ve been helping him set the donk in the right spot, i`ll be keeping a close eye on it as it developes. |

Must be the same one that was at Gun. It was light blue too. Shame the fabricator didn't make a jig for te subby before he cut the front off. Or did he?? |

Updated with spy pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() It hasn't got the exhaust manifold or turbo on it yet so I don't know how he intends to mount that. Similarly, I don't know his plan for cooling. I can't say I'm a fan of some of the sub frame details but I've never checked it out up close. The engine mounts off the frame tubes are nicely fabricated. Air conditioned, Nat will love it... M |

yeah the turbo was on it when we were fitting the power unit into the hole, but it really needed to be moved, so they`re fabbing up a new exhaust manifold for it to fit it in a better place with more room ![]() & Dave (the Custom off Road Fab man) is pretty good, but it`s only his first attempt at a jap engined mini subframe,,, my subframe design & Jig will be finished off by Dave for us shortly too, because my usual metal fab man (Dale) broke his leg recently so Poor old Dave will be breaking his back, munching his knuckles & tearing his hair out finishing off our suzi / toyota/ mazda/ mini frames shortly,,, as soon as i rebuild the gearbox on my kombi (again) i`ve now lunched 3x kombi boxes in 3 months, i`ve just ordered a full set of Albins race gears for it & looking around for a turbo 4x4 porsche gearbox to throw at it later in the year... Peter at Custom is sick of seeing my kombi there ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'd like to see what the RH tiebar bracket is attached to, that's the weakest part of all the Starlet subbys I've seen. It's usually dangling on a bit of RHS tube with no bracing underneath back to what's left of the subby.... ![]() ![]() You are putting 75+HP's worth of forward thrust onto this one bracket... I've seen a RH guard crack because of it. If I was the certifying engineer, it wouldn't pass. ![]() |

Yeah Kev, Dave is onto that area, i made a point of it when i was helping him, Altho i havn`t actually seen what he came up with yet. I`ll be over there again next week & i`ll see what he decided to do. My frames , however, are a very different design , mine are more like the original mini pressed metal plate, triangulated type approach... very time consuming & obviously more costly , but laterally & torsionally very much better than "ANY" others you will see. |

yeah, well,,, you can be excited as much as you like,,, in fact , the more the better i say,,, i`ve allways been a big fan of excitement ![]() however, as with anything & everything that i do, it all takes time & we`re only a little over 3/4s the way through our fab of the first frame (Suzi) & we`re yet to finish off the 2nd (toyota), & there is a third design on the books for an automatic mazda 121 bubble power unit mini subframe for the girls. so , yeah please do get excited but by all means , but don`t hold your breath waiting for it,,, it`s allready been about 5 years in the comming, dam my alloy V8 mini subframe took nearly 25 years & everyone knows it`s been about 7 years for my Bimmer Twinky kits ![]() |
