Why is it that conversions are like 50/50 between clubbies and roundies, but there is only a sprinkling of Moke conversions? Is there some big difference or reason why people dont want to convert Mokes over? I would have thought the power/weight ratio would have produced a faster car... or is the structure of a Moke not strong enough to take the weight/stress of a more powerful engine? I have seen a couple of threads with Mokes on here and cant see why there arent more out there being done... |

those mokers are a bit wierd you know..... there are a few getting around, a Daihatsu diesel, a Morris 1500 (?), Tricky did a Swift GTI maybe it's because conversions fall into 2 general categories - reliable daily driver and racetrack screamer... maybe Mokes don't lend themselves to either or maybe there are just so many more minis around is anyone a member of the moke forum? |

There is also the mid engined (suzuki Gti) moke running about Sydney somewhere , A moke should be a little easier if anything with all the flat panels but maybe people just prefer the feeling of safety in an enclosed car (a 4EFTE moke with little aero screens and a bit of streamlining would be fun though ....) . |

The Moke engine bay is a slightly different shape to either a roundy or a clubby. There's a little less room at the back and a bit more than a roundy at the front up high, but a little less than either Mini down low. I have no idea why there are more converted Minis than Mokes, probably because there are heaps more Minis than Mokes. Moke owners seem to be a different demographic. I guess Mokes aren't seen as being so cool for the young people these days. the average age on here would be heaps lower than on the Moke forum. Tim |

There are quite a few young people on here with mokes, me included, we just dont frequent the moke forum as much. Mokes are cool 
I think an all out track moke would be a weapon. I wouldn't do it to a moke though.. I prefer to use a moke to cruise and go the the beach etc. Mokes are more expensive than mini's and there are also less of them around. The Mokes engine bay is also rediculously small when compared to mini's and it's and awkward shape. If you cut the inner guards too you will be able to see the motor from the outside 
Safety and practicality would come into it as well. |

Fair enough reasoning I guess. I would love a Moke with modern day running gear..! Would the engineering on a Moke be mroe stringent? I looked at the papers I got with the one I just bought and the engineering review was pretty limited new engine - tick does it have brakes - tick is it quiet enough - tick.... Nothing about the desgn or structural rigidity of the subframe etc etc. Personally I would love to find a suzuki sierra and throw the moke on that chassis... |

I've seen it done a couple of times. It doesn't really convince me. 
More details here I reckon the drive train from a small AWD car would be better, Holden Cruze maybe? Tim |

A. You simply cannot improve on the brilliance of a moke. Seriously, I've driven my moke at 80km/h, would hate to be in it doing 110km/h. Maybe it's due to its design lending itself to cruising rather than performance.
As for the Moke demographic, at 35 I think I'm the oldest fart out of the 6 or so mokes that I know currently being driven around in Sydney. |

If a Mini has the aerodynamics of a brick, a Moke has those of a highway roadside advertising sign. Seriously, 80MPH would be about it I reckon, whether 100 or 200HP... so why bother.
Ask Mini Mad what a Moke is like at those sort of speeds- I hear the sidescreens fly away.
