both will work fine, just make sure you oil it once a year. They will be illegal to use without an air box, but i didnt have a problem in 3 years with mine, and was pulled over a few times for a look under the bonnet by the boys in blue.

Im pretty sure for best results a longer intake pipe is better then having it straight of the throttle body.

K & N dont filter as well as paper filters but they take less horses. So its power vs longevity

You drivein dusty aras get a denser filter so your engine doesnt suffer

Fram air hog filters are as good as k&n and are a little cheaper too.

i would have thought the opposite as it's the oil that forms part of the filtration system

Yes, true - traps all the larger particles and holds them in suspension!

yes, but using more oil doesn't help, it just drops out, gets sucked into the engine and reduces the flow.
for very dusty areas there are some foam filters to put over the cotton filters

Didnt say to use more oil, just remarked that the oil was a necessary part of the filtration process. :D

yes, you did. and you are absolutly right.
but i thought it would be of any help to say that more oil doesn't filter any better as most K&Ns become overoiled when recharged

I think that Finer Filter makes a foam filter with an outside foam 'sock' that you oil, wash, reuse etc.

Once they become too degraded, you simply replace the outer sock with a new outer element.

KLAS - I would agree with your last post. I dont thinlk that more oil makes them any more efficient during the filtering process, but it could make them less 'breathable'.

Cheers,
Tricky

Finer Filter is no more it got bought out a few years ago by Unifilter.
Yes they do foam filters with 2 layers, mainly for rally work and offroad, bikes etc.
http://www.uniflow.com.au/

BTW Unifilters outflow K&N, I've seen the evidence. 8)
I'm running Unifilters in both our Minis (1293 and 1360).
