I thought it was about time I started a thread. I'll take a few snap shots tomorrow.

I've got myself a Starlet GT front cut, speedo says 92,000km, but has 100,000km service sticker on timing cover, I assume the motor was serviced early. :?

I bought myself a Gates timing belt for a 1.3L Supra :roll: :lol: off eBay and will fit that to my front cut engine.

I will replace the clutch when the motors out, but wondering. What kind to buy? I'm not gonig for big hp, but might in the future so I want to plan ahead. Also when everythings out...LSD?

Was going to do the mod to my Dad's Leyland but have since decided to pick up another Leyland/Clubby when one comes up and paint it black. 8)

And that's about all the news I have for the moment. Oh I'm excited.

But I need some help.

I've got a spare motor and 'box and most stuff which is going to be used in the making of my subframe (which I won't be doing).

But it's been a week or so since I've touched the front cut so I went out today and started to take the top of the dash off (yes I'm slow, I work in one hour sessions) and it's holding on by a little yellow clip on the drivers side. The other 2 or 3 just undid themselves but this one is a bitch! How do I undo it???

The service sticker is telling you to change it at 100,000, not saying it has been changed.

Is there a trick to getting the clips behind the dash undone? I'm very sure it's completely unbolted just one of those 'arrow head' clips still remains.

I don't want to just yank like hell, but if I must?

Ok as promised some quick photos.

I've got some pics of the front cut when we first got it, but have to find them.

For now just a few pics.

This is the front cut, with a few bits removed. It was very complete when I got it, and will use the 'turbo' badge from the intercooler cover somwhere on the car later. But I'm sure I'll be using front mount intercooler, not top.

This is the speedo and stuff, not sure if I'll use it on the Mini, might be cool, but I doubt it would work with the car being much older.

This is the spare motor, missing a few bits as you can see, but I've got an ECU and an intercooler and a few of the pipes for it, and a gearbox, as you can see next to it. Too bad the shifter cables are cut right off. :( This will be used to make the subframe around, and as a spare since I know how hard these are getting to find and after another bloke on here (you know who you are :wink: ) had an issue. Having a spare is probably a good thing.

After doing work on taking it appart I'm now very glad I chose a mini. It's built to be put together by elves and designed never to be taken appart! Well it seems that way anyways.

Also they metal support bars behind the dash are covered in surface rust, which is very thick too. They don't paint them.

Morris would have primed it regardless if you can see it or not. But the car world is very different these days.

Oh and that photo is without top mount intercooler, air intake pipe and filter etc.

The photos of when I got it are on my dad's computer, sometime soon I'll dig them up and show you.

check out 13sec's mini build, he used the gauges, you shouldnt have any issues

Ah I wasn't very clear. I more meant "I don't know if it'll work with the theme of the car, being a much older car than the the front cut"

I'm hoping to get the dash off tommorow, then get to work on getting the brakes and clutch etc out of the way.

So far I'm using the guide on http://www.mpdesign.id.au
