I've been looking at all the engine swaps in here and I'm just wondering if anyones doing any body strengthening with their conversions or do you think the standard bodyshell and mounting points will handle the 3 or 4 times increase in power and torque ?

Hi Ian,

I have done some strenthening around some areas of the body - at strategic points where stress paths meet.

Other then this, the subframe, if properly designed and built, should be able to cope with the increased loads placed upon it.

Thank's Tricky , I was having visions of firewall bulkheads and floors cracking with the extra torque of the motor trying to pull forwards .

I put an 1100 in a 62 850 shell once, but without the radiator-side top steady bar. Within a couple of months the 1100's torque had fatigued the spot-welded mount underneath the master cylinders, to the point it sheared off completely. Good way to learn smooth driving technique

Don't underestimate the stresses a strong engine can put on the body.. make sure your mounts are strong...

And that my friend, would not be a good look!!

Well almost 2 years on the road and no cracks, fatigueing (took a leaf out of Tricky's book) etc. Like Andy says if you build it right then this shouldn't be a problem....
