Post subject: | Heavy Clutch VTEC |
I have just finished fitting a VTEC to my mini race car and despite a few teething problems I managed to get it up and running however the clutch pedal is rather heavy (I am using the standard mini clutch master cylinder). Before I go and re-sleeve the cylinder and modify the piston has anyone else encountered this problem and come up with a simpler solution? PJ |

what type of clutch is in it? standard, heavy duty, button? My clutch on my starlet gt mini was great, i put a heavy duty exede one in and the pedal went alittle harder but nothing to bad for everyday driving. I was using a stock mini master with a toyota slave. Also any pictures of your conversion? sounds interesting. |

No idea what type of clutch is installed as I haven’t had it apart save to say the that the engine came out of a Civic Type R and the clutch was working fine (using the Honda master cylinder and pedal setup). Pictures Here is a link to my ISP provided web site, not very sophisticated and a bit of a rushed job but it will do until I get time to build a proper site. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~peter_white/index.html |

these are the 2 B16 minis that run in the super minis, the first one is using a mini master cylinder, I'm not sure what the other one is using, the intake goes right over it. PM me for phone numbers |

there basicaly 3 ways of doing the clutch for the hydraulic vtecs boxes: 1. Just use the mini master cylinder and Honda slave cylinder. The plumbs straight up with no modification, but gives a VERY heavy pedal which is what you've done 2. Fit an aftermarket 14mm mini master cylinder. This is a straight swap and gives a nice light clutch, but can cost a bit 3. Modify the Honda master cylinder to fit the mini pedal. The requires a little bit of patience, is usually free (if you remember to get the slave from the donor car) and results in agood clutch pedal feel somehwere between the above two options in terms of lightness. |
