I've gone and done it now!

A wrecking yard went broke and all their stock came up on Grays Online. For the click of a mouse I have bought a 4EFE and manual box for bugger all. This is the normally aspirated version commonly fitted to local Starlets.

I'm thinking of fitting it to the Moke! I don't need Turbo power, but if I change my mind later I know the 4EFTE should fit where a 4EFE does. At worst I can use it as a blank for dummying up a frame.

Just what I need, another (n)ongiong project.

Has anyone tried the n/a motor in a Mini? I'm hoping with no turbo at the front it will be an easier fitment?

Bnicho,

It should be marginally easier as it will be shallower back to front.

You should get reasonable performance out of one too.

It's a good base to start from, especially if you picked it up as cheap as you say......

hey i did one years ago

the cat convertor is on the front of the motor so it sticks out just as far as the turbo but if you made up a set of custom pipes it should give more room up front

great buy for under $200,should have bought the other one as well for spares as it only went for $84 bucks and looked like it had a custom aftermarket fueling set up,might even have originally being a ep91 turbo motor. good luck with the project

Yes, I nearly bought the other motor without gearbox too, but I'm already way over my "cars" budget this month with finishing the Corona. Bringing home two motors would have got me killed!

I didn't notice any difference in fueling, but I'm not real familiar with these motors. I guess I will be soon enough.

gzeVAN, Interesting about the cat converter! I appreciate the offer of info, I will send you a PM. Hopefully I can relocate the cat under the floor to create some space up front. But I will probably have to lengthen the front panels to fit a radiator in there anyway. At least on a Moke it's all flat steel, so it should be easy to do and won't look out of place.

I will fit the 1275 and Auto complete with front subframe from the Moke straight into the Traveller, as it's running so well and has all new bushes, bearings etc. A traveller with 1275 Auto and air con sounds good!

I've got a couple of spare subframes to cut up. Anyone got a rusty Moke front end I can use for experimenting?

Tricky got a G13B into a moke without lengthening it, so you should be OK... Les took a crappy Moke front to the tip not long ago, he might have another one tho

It was probably the one PVA had in his yard for years.

No big deal, I've got create some space in the shed first anyway. Sarah is starting to take exception to wheels and engines under tarps in the pergola.

Any links to this guy Tricky's Moke?

I reckon the headlights will be the biggest hurdle to frontal space, as they stick so far into the engine bay. I'd rather lengthen the front than space them out from the front panel. I don't want a boggle-eyed Moke.

The G13B fitted in no worries with room to spare.

Jamie is lengthening his front though to allow for large snail, intercooler and radiator.

Well the engine is safely in the shed. It looks nice and compact but was surprisingly heavy.

I guess the fun will begin sometime. Right now I can't bring myself to pull the engine out of the Moke. Too busy anyway.
