Hey guys i finally got up and bought the half cut! its now time to put .....

As you can see the mini is in a sorry state and ive got a lot of work ahead of me. Lots of plans in store for GOF :P :wink:

Before i start i have to say heaps of thanks to minstar for his website being so helpful and motivating me! and archangel007 for helping me out with the engineer report :D

Ok, i got the half-cut delivered to mine yesterday but to my surprise it arrived on the back of a ute! so i had to use my engine crane and roof winch to get it of and after much effort finally got it onto a pallet!

Today after a long rest and night of planning i started with the dash and started to remove the ecu and wiring loom, since i wasnt planning to keep the dash itself (just the gauges so i could sell them) i cut up a bit of it in order to reach some of the wiring, being careful not to cut wires in the process :P

i also started to remove the intercooler radiator and some piping in the engine bay

Does anybody know how to remove this metal bracket above the pedals? ive undo the two bottom bolts and i cant seem to find anymore but it just wont budge! i have to get it out of the road to remove the gauges and reach the speedo cable

haha that was when i was starting to get frustrated and got into it the the angle grinder only to realsi it wold work much better if i undid all the screws instead of butchering it:P. managed to fix most of it up now though hehe

If i remember correctly that bracket was fixed to that big pipe running from one side of the car to the other.

Make sure you start labeling all the wires with duct tape and a black texta. Dont use masking tape because it will fall of and the texta will fade.

thanks dan :D i started labeling the wires with electriacal kind of tape but im finding it hard to write on with the texta so ive switched over to the duct tape. Theres so many wires in the engine bay! lots of respect to all you guys that have already done this it is way harder than it looks. im trying not to stuff up the fuel management system atm and its going well still :)

should have another update tonight

Where are you located?

Make sure you keep all parts that you feel may be of use even down to cables and brackets.

thanks for the kind words guys :), oh im up in good old brisbane seeing if i can be starlet mini number 2 after archangel's hehe

I never got around to downloading the pictures of what i did for the rest of the day so ill do it first thing in the morning, but i did manage to invest in a welder so tomorrow morning im refreshing my welding skills..its been a while :P lol.

Thanks tricky, im starting to lean towards asking you about making the subframe depending on what my engineer thinks :D. also this has got to be the friendliest forum ive ever been on the help here is one of a kind :).

Update today.... i have finally removed everything other than the drive shafts and the gear change from the gearbox. i took the turbo off straight from the manifold cause the exhaust bolts were all rusted so there was no way i could undo the exhaust and remove it so i just took the lot out in one go.

Ive invested in some car stands to put the half cut on making it so much easier to work on too.

im having trouble removing the drive shafts and the gear change from the gearbox side of the halfcut. with the drive shafts issue ive undone the engien mounts and lowered the engine on the crane as low as it can go and have been trying to undo them with no luck. Also with the gear change i cant seem to undo it from teh gearbox.

Sorry aboutno photos im at work but tomorrow morning ill update wil all photos of what ive done so far

What side of the shafts are you trying to remove??

To remove the inside side just undo the clips on the rubber boots and they will slip out but that will depend on if your strut is out, brakes dismantled etc. I actual wedged a huge screwdriver between the studs and the garage floor then put my socket on the castel nut and jumped up and down on my socket bar, after a bit of effort i finally cracked it. You remove the nut and pull the whole strut away whilst lightly taping the shaft out of its position.

The gear change should have 4 bolts at the plastic base which you remove and thats it. Most of us then cut (drilled out the spot welds) the mount out.

With the shafts you could just get the angle grinder out and cut the shaft off right at the CV. You will find that the shaft will still be long enough to be cut down to the right size.

Where abouts in Brisvegas are you located?

I would be able to do a subframe for you, no worries there.

Like Dan said, undo all the suspension, disassemble everything, then take the driveshafts out. It makes the whole job easier.

Disconnect the gear change cables from off the gearbox side, (label them first), and then disconnect the shifter mechanism as per Dan's instructions (4 bolts into trans. tunnel), then take the shifter mechanism and cables out as one unit.
