Hi All,

For those people who have done, or are contemplating on doing a 4EFTE conversion, where did you get your driveshafts machined and how much did they cost?

Up here in Brisbane, there is only 1 or 2 companies that do it, and they charge an arm and a leg (and your first born!!).

Please supply contact details for the Engineering shops if able.

Thanks,
Tricky

Andy, I gather you are talking about the Bris Metro area? As most want the car in rolling chassis with engine so that they can take precise measurements. There is a fair amount of experience and engineering in insuring you cut and spline to the correct length etc. I got M&A engineering down here in the ACT to do mine and they wanted the car etc as did every other mob I spoke to.

Cheers

Matt

Hey, just finished making my own
Took me 3 hours to turn on my lathe at home and about 5 hours to set up the mill at work with the dividing head and cut 2 Honda and 2 mini splines...had them cased up and have them back in my hot little hands.........
Material was EN39b...carburising tool steel cost at $8.50 per metre
Freight and heat treatment was about $50
My time...if I was charging this out.......$500 ish......

Damn its good being a Toolmaker........alot of times

errr....and no, I don't take orders....

Glenn

Err, good on you Glenno.

It would be a bit expensive freighting them to New Zealand anyway.

That is a GOOD price......I looked around before i made mine, prices ranged from $1000 for the pair to $200..............and the $200 was with a crowd that was only gonna do the splines.......had to supply them turned and centred.
I think my time was on the long side for the splining, but I am abit fussy and when its for yaself, time is irrelevant..........
If they are a specialized drive shaft centre, they will know all the tricks, but if its a local machine shop, make sure they radius all changes in diametres, leaving no sharp corners-stress risers.........

Cheers
