The firewall is not the big issue - I'm not sure you can clear the steering rack ![]() |

You can probably shoehorn anything in if you really want to....but why do it on a 1988 Rover when there are zillions of old shells out there to experiment on ![]() |

I already have the car and the mitsub engine and they owe me nothing. Could rebuild the 998 and work it to a 1275 but that will probably cost me more than to use what I have. Besides, the car will be for my fiance and I want it to rev and be ever reliable. |

as far as i know the conversion has not been done yet. I think its time to get the measuring tape out and see if it will physically fit in the bay. |

a 998 won't go to any more than 1250, thats with an 1100 crank, and very oversize bores.... a 1275 is a big block as far as minis are concerned.... I've heard, but you need to do the measuring, that a mitsubishi is too wide for the engine bay. Mick, don't worry about him cutting up a rover, they're dime-a-dozen, its the aussie morris shells we should be worried about ![]() |

Hi Speed, Simon is exactly right. Depending on which Mitsubishi powerplant you are talking about.......(4G93 came out in SOHC and DOHC, and some were FWD and some RWD) We measured the 4G63, and found it too wide by about 100mm or more, same with the 4AGE from Toyota. Is it a 4G93 from a Lancer or Colt?? The only 1.8 that I know to fit is the B18 from Honda and the CA18 from Nissan. Like Brad said, get out the tape measure and have a look. If it is the same configuration as the 4G63, then I seriously doubt it. My $0.02 Cheers, Tricky |

The engine is a SOHC unit from a cc (1995) GLXi Lancer Coupe and I believe has the same configeration as the 4G63. (Gearbox is on driver's side and therefore might not clear the steering box, among other things) Unfortunately, I'm unable to measure the bay as I have the car stored with a friend, who is currently on holidays for another month. Other than that, I don't actually have the gearbox for the 4G93 and was really hoping that someone may have done a similar conversion already. Storage space has always been my biggest issue. Having 3 existing projects doesn't help.. I will attempt to measure up a Mitsubishi engine and gearbox.. possibly from a wrecker and once I get access to the car, I will measure up the engine bay. My chances may be slim but it's worth a look. If that doesn't work, I intend to use the 83.72mm crank to stroke the 998 to 1100, Have the head shaved, ported and made to take larger inlet and exhaust valves (33mm/27mm). Put a mild cam in, along with 40 thou pistons and rings and top it off with a set of LCB extractors with 2inch exhaust. Is 70hp @ the flywheel too unrealistic??? So Mick can rest easy.. this Rover is not on the chopping board just yet. ![]() Thankyou to all for your input. |

if he is gonna cut it up and he really wants it to fit will it still be too wide if he make his front end a f/g flip front, that should give him at least 100mm either side to play around with, but even if it is a rover why not try a different roundie, wait a while and he may find one in the trado for a good price, (invoice) $0.02 |

Cheers, Tricky its HP@wheels you want isnt it?? not flywheel HP wats 70fwHP @ the wheels worth then? my 1148 had al that and dyno'd at 45.9HP@wheels |

70hp at the wheels would be about 93hp at the flywheel So 45.9hp at the wheels would be ABOUT 45.9Kw at the flywheel - about 61.2hp at the flywheel. hp / 1.333333333 = Kw Kw * 1.333333333 = hp (I think) You follow? This is VERY rough though! |

![]() Thankyou to all for your input. There is a place for everything......Don't get me wrong...I grew up in an era where Q Cars (or sleepers) were everywhere....for example, some mates of mine had an FC holden that had very strong 3/4 race engine...the body looked like crap...but many a Porsche was humbled off the line ![]() |
