Post subject: | which engine conversion? |
I've started looking around at different engine conversions for a round nose mini, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by how many different types there are. Are there any that stand out from the rest and could be 'recommended' as being better than the others? Do they have particular advantages/disadvantages? Thanks.. |

Depends what you want out of it. Power - Gt Starlet/ Suzuki GTI (S13B)/ Honda Ease of Fitment - Non turbo 4EFE starlet, SOHC Suzuki (G13A), Daihatsu. I have gone 80% of the way through a Suzuki gti conversion then changed to a GT Starlet conversion. In terms of reward for effort the GT Starlet is a better conversion as they require the same amount of effort. It also depends on how mechinally capable you are and what you are prepared to try and achieve. Having someone else complete an engine conversion for you is cost prohibitive in my opinion. In short, bite off a huge chunk and see if you can chew it. But keep it in the back of your mind that someone else has done it before so when you hit a snag there is help available. There are atleast 10 blokes on here how have done or are in the process of doing a gt starlet conversion. There is safety in numbers....... |

Now correct me if I'm wrong... The 4EFE engine is in both the non-turbo and GT Starlet (turbo)? However due to turbo/intercooler etc. the non-turbo version is easier to install? In terms of power, the GT version being better, for street use how good would this upgrade make the mini? No doubt engine choice being perhaps the most important decision, I'd like to get it right the first time ![]() |

4EFTE - Turbo 4EFE - Non Turbo. In terms of street use - Fantastic performance, Toyota reliability and efficiency. In terms of race use - Fantastic performance, Toyota reliability and efficiency |

Stripey is pretty much on the money. Performance wise the Starlet GT is hard to beat. With what are pretty much bolt on mods you can get the 4EFTE putting out pretty large hp numbers especially in the mini context. The 4EFTE is internally stronger than its NA brethren both engine and gearbox (eg. stronger conrods etc). As for how much better would this make the Mini for street use ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
