I am probably making a rod for my own back. But as part of the new turbo upgrade I am gong to attempt a make my own turbo manifold. Just thought I would get peoples views, advice etc... Cheers Matt |

For a tight engine bay, go the log type manifold |

AWD I have the turbo mounted using the standard 4EFTE manifold. This obviously won't work with the new turbo and is crap anyway. I was more interested in the virtues of such things as equal length runners etc. Also wouldn't I only run a log if I was mounting the turbo over the gb. Cheers |

ive heard there is bad flow through the 3rd runner on the standard manifold. big restriction. unless ya wanna chase every last 0.1 of a horse power i think dont worry about equal length too much but more less restrictions on the runners. just my thoughts. |

Equal length runners are the best setup, but not if you haven't got the room to do it. I agree with Matt, the biggest problem is making a manifold that will have an even & unrestricted flow, which is why I would (will ![]() |

Thanks Matt, yeah the infamous 3rd runner dimple. I agree with the runners I have heard the same, more on flow rather than length. Unless your doing a race engine for the Bathurst... ![]() Cheers Matt |

Matt you've got all the room in the world to build the right manifold you need (given its a clubman). Note - I'll take the dump pipe you made off your hands....... |

Actually JC I found a whole stash of 2.5" mandrel bends under the workbench while trying to get the gearbox into the clutch (long story). So give me a week or two and I'll let you know. Anyway to one an all I will put up pics as I get somewhere and you can all critique my efforts...I think I will have room... Cheers Matt |

Matt, having the Idea of putting a 4efte in a round nose their's no other way than making a bit of mess. And no matter which way you go with it will be a comprimise in some way. I am going to mount my turbo on top of my gearbox and I will be making a custom exhaust (and maybe inlet) manifold, and have put a little thought into it, but haven't done any measurements yet, I think a equal length one is possible (and better than a log), you will have to accept that they will have a significant bend right near the head and a few other bends but a 4-2-1 wouldn't bee too hard to design and would be a significant increase over the restrictive stock setup. I wouldn't mind thinking of a good way to do it for you if you want to put pen to paper. I recon if you laser cut the mounts, we could weld the rest up out of mandrel bends and pipe, and should be a fair bit of fun. Then for extra protection I would send it to HPC (High Performance Coatings) to give it a nice lasting finish. Hopefully I have provided some help and I welcome criticism ![]() ![]() |

Matt, GO THE LOG ![]() Seriously you have plenty of room in the front and should be able to build any type of exhaust manifold. Dan |

Hi Matt, I have the same dilemma with the TD04 L. I have attached some pics of a manifold that I will try to emulate in the Mini. Notice how slimline it is, I believe it will fit the Mini with just a bit of room to spare. Should be good for some really hi flows, and getting all the available horses out of the 4EFTE. Cheers, Andrew ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [/img] |

I have just bought a new turbo too and have to make a new manifold I have made a couple of turbo manifolds before and equal length is not too important just make the runners smooth and not too big in diameter, too big slows gas velocity and will be laggy similar size to exhaust ports is what is suggested. Log style manifolds OK where limited space but better with headers style where you have room. |
