Mounted the RX7 'Top Mount' intercooler today. Little bit of cutting on the bonnet supports but nothing major. RX cooler is much more efficient and a larger capacity that the factory item.

Yes, that is a mini radiator in there. Got to put a fan in there and more than likely an alloy radiator.

Looking good! You're making quick progress. That RX7 intercooler looks like it was a good idea, you'll be able to put a decent looking bonnet scoop on there, if need be.

Gents,

Question - I have to cut a hole in my bonnet for air to pass through (or over) the intercooler. Should I:

A) cut a whole the entire size of the intercooler and thus cutting our the 'rib/ridge' that runs up the centre of the bonnet.

B) cut two seperate holes either side of the 'rib/ridge'.

Should I profile the holes into rounded edges or just shape the whole (s) to the that of the intercooler?

hmmmm i dunno... I Guess it all depends on what scoop you are gonna run...

Stripey for what it was worth I was going to create a hole the full width of the intercooler based on the idea that if you have all that surface area it makes sense to run air over it. Still I was using the standard TMIC which is obviously smaller. I would go rounded edges they could knock you back on rego for having sharp edges...My 2c

I would match the opening to the intercooler, but with r10 corners,
but like Dean says, depends on the scoop you intend to use. Your engineer may require the bonnet to be reinforced.

The area that I'll be cutting away is only sheet (and not the cross support brase) so I don't think there wouold be a requirement for bracing.

I would like to see how the inlet air temp fairs without a bonnet scoop on it first.
