Yeah Beau I like it!

I ride a little viffer 400 and they do sound sweet. The 400 V4 is considered pretty well bullet-proof, and I don't imagine the 800 would be any different.

Keep us posted.

If only we could register bike engined cars down here , love your approach of mounting the engine sideways and keeping it all compact and still front wheel drive , will be fantastic when it's finished , good luck .

It's all to do with emissions apparently , bike and car rules are different and to register a bike motor in a car I think you have to go through all the emission testing ..... Do a search in this category for bike engined mini's , there's a good thread on it . Also , normally they use an electric motor on a non drive wheel for reverse so that's not the problem (though it wouldn't be easy to set up ....)

I'm worried about going forward right now.

Reverse can wait, but yes it will be be a starter motor when the time comes.

UPDATE!

Not much. Just some progress from today. Still a long way to go. Lots of cutting, measuring, grinding, measuring, welding, measuring and measuring! The pics look a little rough. Nothing is level so things look out of wack.

And used painters tape to make stencils for gussets. I alos bought some off ebay that are a little nicer.

Next is to get it up and a flat surface and make sure everything is perfectly level and square. I have meaured everything NUMEROUS times during the build. The two front mounting holes moved it about 2mm though. I still have to finish the front lower section so I should be able to correct it then. I'm afraid to see what will happen when it's all welded up.

Time for a nice cold shower and some food...

Looking good , here's the other thread about bike engined car's in OZ , possible but expensive .....

By the way Beau , what are you planning to do to balance the car since most of the weight from the motor is only on one side , albeit the passenger side on a LHD car ? Is there room for the battery and any other heavy bit's in that side of the engine bay ?

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to have to convert over to left hand drive. I plan to have the battery, reverse motor, diffrential, radiator, overflow tank, oil cooler and possbily a turbo. Once I get it built I'm bringing it up to school to get everything weighed and dynoed.

Hi Beau,
This is Jeremy ( The guy that bought the 13" rims off of you). I like what you doing, I thought of doing the same but with a TL1000R motor. I'm interested to see the finished product. Keep up the good work! And good luck.

Hey dude!

I actually considered the TL1000 engine. It was a toss between the RC-51, VFR800, or the TL1000. I have heard a few bad things about reliability with the TL1000 engines though. I got a sweet deal.

If I get this set-up running good, I'll be looking to spend some more money and get a Honda RC-51 engine. More compact, more HP, more torque and awesome sound!
