Post subject:  Automatic MG Metro Turbo

Hi guys

I just starting to look into converting my 1968 MG 1100's engine to an MG metro turbo. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they made these in automatic? I have searched a bit and can't find whether they were made or not. If anyone knows please let me know :D
Cheers!

I don't know for sure whether they were, but i doubt it. I don't see any reason why you just couldn't slap it onto an auto box?

Hi i don't think it has been done, but it would probably change gear before the turbo kicked in.
cheers

You'd have to get an Auto block, or possibly modify the manual block. Transfer all the metro gear over. No reason why it can't work.

You can adjust when the auto changes gear, so that wouldn't be a problem.

You can change the setting on the auto boxes to tell it when to change gear...

No, they never made them in Auto with Turbo.

Much as I am a fan of the Auto, I'm not sure it could cope with the torque. The manual gearboxes couldn't stand the punishment very long. But would be an interesting project. :)

yes the shift point is adjustable but only a little, i have found that there is about 2000rpm difference from one to the other, about 3000rpm on lowest to 5000rpm highest. You can rev it as hard as you want when gear is selected and not in drive.

If you put a stronger spring in the kickdown mechanism it will raise the shift points.
