Well sorted out the missing or my mechanic did. Ends up I didn't tighten the screw for the TPS so as I went around corners it was moving side to side causing the car to miss. But last night I took her for a spin and the MAP sensor went on the fritz (again) causing the check engine light to come on. Checked code (31) MAP sensor.

Does anyone have a spare (that works) or can someone give me advice on an aftermarket that is compatible with the Starlet system?

Cheers

Matt

PS. Hugh sorry I didn't ring you on the long weekend I was a bit flat out... :)

That's OK INLAWS in Town anyeway.... I had "A BALL"
You can "borrow" mine until you can find a replacment. I won't need it for a while yet. Another MAP Sensor? that's bad luck or a sign of something more? you only did the last one not long ago.

Nah Hugh still the original sensor. Sent it (with check engine light on) to Toyota who said there was nothing wrong with the sensor but still couldn't solve the problem. Then started it up the next morning and it solved itself! Now it is on the blink again.

Yeah if I could borrow yours then I can install it and see if it runs properly which would confirm that I need a new MAP sensor once and for all.

Cheers

Matt

PS. I will give you a ring this week as I am wanting to go on the club cruise this weekend.

sounds like a crook earth - 99% of electrical problems on modern cars are due to the ECU or something else not earthing properly

Ok SK I'll give it a go. I must admit it all happened after I closed up the dash so maybe that's it something moves or the ECU gets shoved or something...

not looking forward to your newfound spagetti junction of wiring are you?

well if that's the only downside I can live with it even though I appear to be failling Electronic component of my degree currently.

it's probably the only downside youve run into other than rego

Hugh, trust me mate I am more than impressed with the engine. Like I said connected everything up and it started first go. The halfcut had obviously sat in the rain for quite a while so I expected that eventually something would go on the fritz. Overall I think the engine is brilliant and this is a small issue in the big scheme of things...

Hopefully I can sort whatever it is out before the run on the 29th?

Cheers

Matt

Simon Kerr, you're a legend. I took the dash off again and wiggled the loom inside the dash and the ECU aswell and she ran like a dream. Engine check light went off and he thing now idles below a 1000 and smooth as. Cheers.

Does this mean we'll see you for the run on Sunday?? My Mini won't be there, but I should be. Depending on the night before, obviously. :)
