Stainless is weaker. Trust me I've seen enough busted ones fixing outboard motors...
I'd stick with grade 8.

on the gti manifold the studs at the bottom have broken off. I can replace them with some grade 8 studs. Should I use stainless studs? I was thinking of using just grade 8 studs and making up some brass hex nuts, but twice as long then usual nuts. Or should I just stick with the grade 8 studs and steel nuts.....? |

Stainless also expands more with heat - not a good result on exhaust manifolds Go the brass/high tensile option! |
