Alot of people have a 2k budget

You can't even do a proper rebuild of any mini engine for 2k (gearbox included) ..

The rough cost of the conversion is basically the same no matter what engine you choose (within reason) if you are paying someone else to do it.

A front cut alone will set you back $1-2k..getting a subframe made anywhere from $2-4k..then you have engineering ~$600, brake upgrades $1500+, fuel pumps, radiators, wiring etc..etc..

It's just not viable for anywhere near that kind of money..triple it...at least.

You can say that again!!! I've just spent about $4500 in the last 3 months buying bits for my future mini. And Its all just sprawled about my shed. That is only for the engine and suspension/brakes. I've still got to build the subframe, repair/paint shell and do all the interior $3000. Add another $1000 for extras here and there. Then probably another $2000 on the brightwork and wheels/tyres. $1000 for a bit of engineering and i am pushing way too much over the budget. Thats if everything goes well. And as we all know, Minis are so much fun in that department...

South Australia is the WORST state in Australia in terms of motor swap regs and car modifications, read what has to be done, its plain scary the amount of money you would spend. Aside from buying the motor, I dont think there is much difference in teh conversion costs, as they are all the same things required.

mate I have just spent 2 and a half times your budget on
wheels (traction)
8.4 rotors (brakes)
fully adjustable suspension (handling)

admitidley that's 13x7 with 225's and Kad rose jointed lower arms, adj castor bars, nolathane bushes, bearings balljoints, tie rod ends. Hi-lo's and a rover booster

but you do a conversion cheap without upgrading all this, you will never appreciate it

And so why did you chose the rose jointed arms?
They'll shag out in seconds, and make a big mess when they let go.

got rose jointed, and they also have nolothanes, for everyday use.

I was trying to say that theirs no such thing as a cheap but good conversion, it doesn't work that way, and you'll end up shooting yourself in the foot to either have it knocked back at rego or getting it on the road only to realise you built a lemon. want a chep engine buy a 1275, leave it stokish, and she hopefully will be reliable sometimes.

6 grand on suspension?

i've got adjustable camber and castor on front, 7.5 discs, spacer rears, 5.5 inch wheels, for a grand total of $1300

cheap doesn't mean nasty, all the time....
