Hi Matt,
Great news that ist all coming together.
I reused the standard Starlet washer bottle and put it into the boot - I just ran the lines up the same tunnel as the fuel lines - easy.
Good luck for the engineering test.

Well the saga continues. Car runs perfectly then I start her up and out of nowhere the check engine light comes on. Start panicking, take her around the block she starts to struggle to rev. I get back home and start thnking, no ideas come. Then open up the boot and tap the tanks basically empty. So anyway I think it may have been a low fuel pressure warning (actually very sure) as I look up the codes and without even knowing which number its generating I am sure it is this. So will disconnect the battery terminal to reset fill her up and we will see. Also dash in for final time. Tyres (A539's) on Tuesday. Then off to engineering test hopefully Fri or Monday! Also is everyone running a washer bottle for the windscreen. I have no where to put it? Cheers Matt |

Buy a Rover washer bottle, they live in the boot. If you get the mount bracket with the spot welds drilled out, you can pop rivet it into place. Maybe? You'll have to run the clear line all the way forwards. M |

Alright, washer bottle in the boot it is. So I gather there is no problem with pressure even running from the boot? Yeah once I have the tyres on I will ring to arrange testing session, then off to the pits... |

just make sure you have a little one way valve so your water wont run all the way back down the line. |

Well it seems (having talked to my engineer) that the car is now in limp mode. Which is why it won't accelerate etc. And disconnecting the battery won't reset it. So yet another trip to get that sorted. I had booked the test for Wednesday so that gone belly up. I tell ya if ain't one thing its another, still I dare say Dean knows more about this than me! |

matt ive never heard of the starlet gt having a limp mode? I would asume it would kick in on a an over rev? but mine has been reved to the rev cut on the dyno and just stopped it reving and went back to normal. What were you doing when it started to do this? Have you got a boost gauge hooked up? maybe over boosting? my engine light comes on when the boost is over the 12psi boost cut on the ecu. |

Well basically I ran it almost dry. Which bought up the engine check light I think because of lean fuel warning. I filled her up again with Vortex and she still runs like a dog because the check engine light is still on. I am dropping it down to Toyota tomorrow morning so they can at least get the codes out of it. I am going to connect the knock sensor which I forgot to reconnect to see if that will sort it. I know very very bad. Cheers matt |

i thought most modern cars with ecu's had a limp/lame mode...my 'lude went into lame mode when the vtec controller was screwing around with the ecu...got that bugger removed and never had issues with it again...i believe its meant as a "just get me home!" feature in the event of catastrophic badness...so it runs everything way under designed output to make sure nothing breaks that stops yer car from going at all...and so yer not stranded out in the middle of nowhere... |

No Idea when it comes to the Toyota ECU Matt... But I would be checking your Fuel Filter after running it so low in the tank... Good luck with the teathing problems... Everything will be worth it in the end! |

Yeah sorry if I seem a little dispondent, its just that it is the second time I have had to cancel the test session. I have confirmed that the Starlet's GT's included have a limp mode. Also limp mode can come on even when there's no that much wrong simply it can come on when one of the sensors either stops working eg MAP sensor or the input is out of range (eg. detects lean fuel mixture). So I don't think the engine has detonated or something because it still revs well, but one of the limp mode conditions is that it limits engine performance (to limit damage to the engine in case it is something major) hence the sluggish takeoff. Still I will find out tomorrow when they do the examination. Also I will reconnect the knock sensor tonight and reset the ECU again and see if this removes the problem. Cheers Matt |

Oh yeah for sure pulver, just not what I need right now. And as you say I will have Toyota do a workover so they will most likely find any other faults. I'll guess I will find out tomorrow arvo. Cheers |
