Well here is the general setup of the Log exhaust manifold. I am happy to have gotten this much done this morning but dissapointed that I did not recieve the balance of flanges and plates that i was promised for today. So this is as far as i can go untill the rest of the plates turn up.

She is tight, even tighter at the rear where i want to send the exhaust. Dean had a custom intake manifold which gave him heaps more room.

Looking good Dan. Just out of curiosity, did you try and fit the turbo where Andy had his? I got another email from him the other day. Definitely no firewall mods and it (kid of) fits.

My intention is to fit the turbo in that spot but remove the lugs the locate the wastegate actuator and fit an external wastegate. Should give a little more room.

Now that you have made the log, reckon there is enough room for a radiator up front?

Keep up the good work.

JC

Greate effort Dan, that's very well done. And as everyone else has said tight fit. Also out of interest what diameter is the piping and bends...

Striped 63, I am using a T25g turbo which is a much bigger unit compared to the Ct9. So my answer would be yes you probably can jam the original setup in there but it will poke out of the grille, unless you try doing what you described. Another note, when i saw the photos of Andy's car painted you can just make out part of his subframe through the grille opening and it seems to be very different to what most of us have made. Would love to see a photo of his subframe! have you got one? or can he send you one?

Minstar, the pipe is 61mm OD approx 54mm ID (i think). Can i get you to do me a favour and measure up the starlet radiator please.

I need the following:

1. Core size
2. Core thickness
3. Cross section size of top and bottom tanks (approx will be ok)
4. Inlet and outlet diameter
5. shoe size (No just kidding here)

Thanks

Dan

looks good mate, what sort of material did you use? Steam Pipe bends and normal pipe straight? Is it the general feeling that the log will be ok for the turbo setup. I've got a t25 and will most probably have to make up a log. Sorry if i'm hijacking your thread with all these questions but would bends out of the ports have better airflow or is straight alright? I suppose having bends takes up a lot more room.

Thanks Dean,

Miniboy, the pipe is mild steel with a wall thickness of 3-4mm (use only black no galvanised), fittings (same type used by Dean on his exhaust manifold) are weldable type available from some plumbing suppliers.

I thought about using some bends from the ports but i had limited room. In fact i have half a dozen 45 degree bends and half a dozen 90 degree bends sitting in the garage gathering dust now (cant use them to make a equal length manifold, to tight). Also the position of the main pipe just clears the pipe for the radiator and on the underside the clutch slave cylinder. The trbo water beeds will need a bit of massaging but should be sweet.

As far as the log itself, i lost many nights sleep over weather it would be the right way to go, (I am currently losing sleep about the radiator) and came to the final conclusion it was the only way to do it. I also think that it will be reasonably efficent as the pipe is quite large, anyway time will tell.

Hope this helps.

Dan

i am wondering how it would be if you mounted the turbo laterally (east/west) in line with the engine...over the gearbox ofcourse...instead of nth/sth as you've mounted it there...you could then have a shorter pipe for the header (less lag) and be able to bend the dump pipe down the front and have it go more or less the same path as it would in stock configuration...the intake for the turbo would be hanging out into the wheel arch and the output for the turbo would be in essentially the same spot as you have it there...just a thought...not sure if the turbo is too big for this...

Ohhhhhhh, more sleepless nights ahead.

Yep thought the same inazuma, but the only real drama was the dump pipe was going to be right next to the dizzy (melt down). I also thought about having the turbo reversed and the dump pipe facing the grille, still a possibility???

As i write this the ballance of my plates have turned up, look great. This means i now need to make a decision, do i leave it or do i play with it??

Dan
