Guys, Have been trying to start the exhaust manifold for the roundnose 4efte. I can't seem to be able to get 4 equal length pipes to run from the manifold to the the collector, just limited by the lack of space. I am now thinking of running 4 short runners, about 10mm long into a 55mm ID pipe which then would run all the way to the turbo. So it would be like one big plenum chamber. COMMENTS PLEASE!!! good or bad? I've spent time reading articles on the web and I suppose every one has different views, some swear it does not matter with turbo cars others say that equal length pipes only make a slight difference on highly, highly tunned turbo cars. ??? OPEN TO ALL VIEWS. DAN |

dan i think it will be fine, you may loose a few hp in the end but dont forget your tripleing the power output of the original engine, so a couple of hp will not be noticed. Most factory turbo manifolds are no where near equal length, and if there is no space for anything else then the log manifold is the way to go. |

Looking at the pics on your site brad; even your manifold doesnt have equal length pipes leading to the turbo. and your mini goes like a bat outta hell so should be fine right? ![]() ![]() |

Yeah I agree with Brad when the choices are limited making a choice becomes easier.... ![]() |

Just make up a log. What will it do? Stop gases? I doubt it. If your turbo is capable of x amount of hp a log mani will really only restrict its ability to produce boost by a VERY nominal amount. |

Well Dan, If there is only enough room for a log.. then a log it shall be... Everyone is right... The loss in Hp will be minimal... & can be easily be made up from a few aditional mods later... |

Thanks guys for all yor responses. A log it will be. I cut the short runners for the log this afternoon, neighbours would have loved the constant grinding as i shaped each runner to suit the main pipe. Also extended my gearbox linkage as i was struggling to get reverse. Got reverse but lost 1st and 2nd so i got annoyed and pulled the lonkage apart and welded additional meat to the connecting pin and reshaped it into an oval. Got all gears now. Yee Haa. Dan |

Dan, did you manage to sort out the issue of being able to go from 5th to reverse. Mine seems to have sorted itself. |

Matt, My box does not allow me to go from 5th to reverse, i have to go back to another gear and then i can engage reverse. I think the manufacturers do this to make sure people do not try and change into 6th gear (reverse) while driving leaving a trail of metal down the highway as they slow down. Dan |

Dan I thought I remembered you saying at our last meeting that you had a problem with this safety aspect not operating once you installed the gearlever? |

Yeah pretty close. Had some fun last night though. You know how I made an outlet at the back of both petrol tanks to create a balancing pipe. Well one end started leaking and I couldn't get the drain plug out so there I am with my finger over one outlet trying to draing the other and get petrol all over the place. Manage to sort it out and will get a new piece of hose but god what a pain. You should have seen it like something John Cleese would have done (or Mr Bean). ![]() ![]() ![]() PS. and the memories of a burning garage came flooding back! ![]() |

Haha Matt, Your not alone... I have been there by the side of the road... holding a fingure over the break in the fuel line... Thinking UMMM where is some chewy to fill this gap!... Boot full of FUEL... I was lucky someone from a car pointed it out... before I had more hassles... So good to know you are still having fun Matt... SMiles |

maybe a silly question...but how much turbo lag does locating the turbo over the gearbox introduce? certainly alot further than normal for the exhaust to travel before it hits the turbine... |
