does anyone fabricate these? i want one that will accomodate a flip-front...or do i have to make it up myself? either way does anyone have any resources/plans on how to make these? i have heard it is possible to fit the starlet gt (turbo) engine in a roundnose...and this is what i am going for...i imagine i'll need to have a bonnet scoop...but other than this...it should fit right? |

Yeah it will fit but the turbo will need to be moved over the top of the gearbox, or you could cheat and extend the front of the car. As far as the subframe goes you will need to construct it yourself. I dont think anybody has done a flipfront 4efte conversion yet. Also you should check with the RTA if you are allowed to have a flipfront ??? You will find most people on this forum will help with info about subrame inc pictures etc. As you start building just ask. Dan |

You can mount the turbo using the standard starlet ex mani and turbo. The wastegate actuator is what causes some space issues. Easy enough to piss that off alltogether. |

I just went down to the garage and measured up the stock manifold and turbo. The stock manifold is approximately 115mm of the head and the turbo another say 25mm. from the side of my head to the outside face of the front panel (top bar where the bonnet catch is located) i have 115mm, that would mean you would have to modify your grille to sit further out and cut into the lower section of your front panel. Also my motor is as far back as it can go, the water pump pully is approx 4mm of the drivers tower and the passengers side CV (without the rubberboot) is about 8mm of the inner tower (see previous posts for photos). Note i have also made solid mounts which will stop my motor from moving under load around as much as a standard one. Dan |

Dan, What part of the 'turbo' would foul the grille? Is it the two mounting lugs for the wastegate actuator? That is all that appears to be protruding into the 'line' of the where the grille might sit. ![]() I'm ditching the mech water pump and fit a leccy water pump. This will give me a little more room. moving the turbo over the gearbox doesnt bother me at all...since i am prolly going for a flip front (dunno yet, am calling John Kean from DoT sometime this morning to make sure its all nice and legal) room under the hood will be fairly large... nobody in AU has attempted a flip-front roundnose 4e-fte conversion???...dont usually like being a trailblazer...but meh ![]() this just in: John reckons that i need to fill out a "permission to modify" form from QLD transport and send in drawings n stuff of what i wanna do...then it will either be approved or declined...this is for the flip-front btw... |

spose you could if you got a smaller radiator...would that provide enuff cooling though? starting to think this gt conversion is a pain in the arse...and i should just go with a gti and turbo that...what do you guys reckon? |

Starlet GT was made for turbocharging - I'd go with that |

I'll try and post photos of Andy's roundnose when it was in its early stages and see how the turb looked. Inazuma, don't lose faith before you start, go the roundnose with the efte, enjoy the challenge that the conversion brings. Dan |
