Hi Guys I have just brought a Suzuki GTI motor it didnt come with a Harness ,ECU or Gearbox can you advise me on the on the best way to go either Suzuki ECU or an after market brand also is there any difference between the GTI Gearbox and the standard Swift Box Cheers Wayne |

Gday mate having owned a swift gti And blown up the gearbox and put and standard box back in the gti box has a higher diff ratio for the higher revving twin cam motor but strenght is the same as my swift was turbo charged and the barina box stood up better than the gti box. I had aftermarket injection in mine but if you have to get it approved after market wont be allowed . Thanks Ralph. |

Diff ratio is different and all the GTi guys reckon the GTi box is stronger. Check out www.teamswift.net and www.redlinegti.com and you should find the answers you need. If you have no harness or ECU I would be inclined to go for aftermarket. If you want to keep the cost to a minimum you should try to get an original harness & ECU but I think in the long run you would be better off with aftermarket because. The extra cost would be worth it (IMO) because you can tune it. Also, You are really going to want to strip out all the extra stuff from the original loom that you wont be using. This can be tedious. |

check to make sure that your engineer will allow an aftermarket ECU. Both engineers that I talked to said that it could only be a piggyback style ECU. The wiring harness for the GTI is not that bad actually. It took me 3 hours to pull out what I needed for my GTi. The best thing is to download the manual and look at the wiring diagrams. The only things that I am not sure of is the compatibility of the GTi oil pressure sender, temp sender units that they will work with the stocko mini gauges. or lights. |

on the gearboxs as regards strength i am reasonable convinced the strength wise between the twor there is no difference the gti has closer ratios standard suzi or barina box better suited for mini 10 inchs |

Thank for the help guys being able to use a Swift or Barina box will make life a lot easier as for the ECU I think I will look around for the standard GTI unit |

I think the diff ratios are identical on gti and standard swifts (both 4.105), but GTi boxes are indeed closer ratio, and have a lower ratio 5th gear. As for strength, i belive there identical.. I know of 2 people running swift cino boxes in turbo swifts, and although they do eventually break, it seems to be no quicker than with a GTi box. I intend to use a swift cino box in my mini, I reckon as I can get them for $100 or less versus $350+ for a GTi box, I can afford to break a few..

thats because they have GTi stamped on it from what i have heard the common thoughts are it wont last any shorter the a suzuki box the stocko suzuki has a taller 5th |

Diff ratios Mk2 & 3 GTI 4.105 Cino/Swift/Barina 3.523 & I have seen 3.9 The GTI has a different bellhousing with an extra bolt for a caste iron stifferner to bolt to the front of the block Blue |
