I am putting a GTI motor into my mini, and when going through the wiring harness last night I noted that their was no plug for the O2 sensor. I traced it through the harness to the ECU and it appears as if it was never fitted. After reading the gti bible it said that they were not fitted to cars without catalytic converters. so.. does that mean that I have got an engine that was not brought out in australia? or that some GTi' didn't have the O2 sensor and yet still had a cat... ? Or do I have an import motor.
The bloke that i bought it from said that he drove the car home before he pulled the motor out so... um.. i guess its not from a front cut. Can I tell from the engine numbers at all?
The engine only had the cast exhaust manifold fitted so I don't know if it had a cat or a O2 sensor

You said that you have a Mk1 motor, they were not fitted with a 02 sensor, but
still ran a cat converter.

hey umm my motor is a MK1, i took it out of a MK1 aswell, it has a o2 sensor!

from memory i think its a plain white wire, comes out of the section of loom were the coolant temp, thermo fan temp sender and i think the reverse gear sensor is..
