Has anyone converted to a jap motor whilst retaining the hydrolastic suspension?
If so, what motor did you use? I'm just curious, cause I want to keep hydrolastic, but DON'T want to keep the A series, or have a rather poor handling mini.

Most (all?) of those that Dennis Turner converted (including Twincammini's) do use the hydro bags, but the piping F/R is removed so what you have is 4 independent `hydro' systems, one at each corner. Pressure of each corner is adjusted separately.

i can't fathom any way for that to work the way hydrolastic normally does :/ it'd be a bit more like citroen's hydropneumatic suspension wouldn't it? i like it working front to back... it's schmick
has anyone tried a 4efte? |

People think a hydro bag is just like an air cylinder or air bag, but no, it is not. Best way I can describe it is like a tall Mini rubber cone, but with a bladder inside it. Even if you block the fluid line off completely, the rubber part will still flex a fair bit.  Hint- try bouncing the front of a hydro car and watch the hydro hoses move up and down- that's the rubber cone (top part) of the bag working.

I've been running my Suzi mini for nearly 3 years now without the interconnecting pipes. I have fitted standard shocks at each corner. In my opinion the ride is much much smoother than the normal hydro setup and there is no nose lift under full acceleration and body roll is reduced as well. Cheers dtmini. |
