Did you cut the inner panel to fit that radiator in that position?

It's cut anyway I'm going to make custom ones to allow for the Rad and alternator etc, you could fit one in a normal mini no worries though they're quite small

And I can go slow and still get it wrong haha

Thanks! Always good to get encouragement from those who have done it before!

Started on my radiator setup today, hoses look a bit Frankensteinish but they will be replaced with proper ones now that I know what bends I need.. And before anyone asks, there's plenty of room between the exhaust and the hose

Brackets for the bottom, simple enough

Theyre both the same shape which is handy if i need to male new ones.. This is the lh bracket which will be welded to the outside of the frame

And the rh one is going to fit to the crash bar

And that's how it works, need to make a stronger top support for it.. Got hoses on order so should all be together soonish

Putting the filler in that pipe along the top?

Would be a better setup if you did Mike!

Good work as usual.

Cheers,
Tricky

I've been watching with interest and I like the most of the work you've done so far. I have to say that top pipe arrangment looks a little convoluted. Are you sure it can't be simplified with a tight U bend that hugs the radiator. Then all you would need is a single bigger U shape hose to get to the thermostat housing.

Is there a reason why you chose that particular radiator? One with a top and bottom tank would have the pipes located in a much better position.

yeah i want to run a straight around u pipe im just concerned about the bonnet lock being in the way, which would be ok if i could get rid of it and run some pins but i dont think you can anymore.. but il try.. that pipe isnt a final product, and i agree it looks ugly  i couldnt use a std mini radiator because it sat too high with my engine mount arrangement, that, and the area of the mpi rad mounted sideways gets alot more air feed when its in the front mount position as the bonnet blocks alot of the other one.. its just works well with the space ive got to work with.

I can't quite see what your saying from the pictures. But if the pipe comes in from the side under the bonnet catch already I can't see how a U bend in the same place would be any different. Is there space between the rad and the engine? To save space you could use a bigger diameter tube and crush it slightly.

theres about 15mm gap between the motor and the radiator at its skinniest so you would have to go over the rad like i have already, and to provide the sufficient 10mm clearance required to meet design rules id have to cut the bonnet catch panel away slightly to allow it to come up through there, which i what i wanted to do but there isnt enough room, unless i can get rid of the catch

and right now ive given the pipe enough distance under the catch to not get hit by it when the bonnet is closed (around 45mm)

Okay. Like I said it's hard to see from those pics. Too tight to do what I suggested.

Sorry to grill you like this but how will you fill the cooling system? I can't see how you would fill it from an overflow tank and the top hose is not the highest point which would cause an air bubble in the top of the radiator.

The expansion tank will have a cap on it like most modern cars so it will be filled from there.

Don't worry about asking questions mate that's what the thread is all about.

Well, it's passed it's first test from
The engineer on all fronts so pretty happy about that and I can now proceed to a finished mock up before another inspection to iron out any final problems before I can build the car completely. Happy times!
