Think about it 2 liters, 8 cylinders, 320bhp, close to even weight distribution, good fuel economy. Give it a standard look but on 12x6's and then theirs always the possibility of forced induction :P .

just thought I'd put it out their and on my list of dream toys.
Come on Matt and Trickey, I'll drop a shell of on the weekend

You mean a twin-bank R1 setup Ken??

Yes, that would be superb. It would be hours on the lathe though!

Cheers,
Tricky

P.S. The name QBR and Harley Davidson do not go together!!!

The only reason I mention Harley big block motors is the 'tuning' that's available for them. If you want a different motor to the usual R1/Hayabusa engines, a v-twin would be cool. Ducatis have tuning parts but you're a bit limited in capacity and therefore torque. I like the Suzuki M109R motor (1800cc) but the unit construction vs the Harley's separate gearbox count against it.

There's a V8 Caterham which uses a custom twin-R1 block here, but it costs in excess of 110,000 pounds...

You could just swap the plug leads around on an A-series and get the same effect.

I think you'd be surprised if you've ridden one. As the ad might say, "If you like torque, then you'll love a Harley big block". They're somewhat of a source of mirth, but there're good reasons why people like them. Also see above comments about the M109R motor.

When talking bike engines, the focus has to be on the Euro III compliant engines. As Tricky found, these are legit for registration.

I like the look of this one. Shaft drive so I could mount the donk transversly at the front and drive the back wheels! Euro compliant too!!

http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/1400GTR

Now can someone just buy one then put it down and stuff the farings but not the hardware? I'll buy it for 1/4 of the retail then thanks...

M

Edit: More pics. See the shaft drive, compact engine etc. Oh and 153 Hp !

Not as fast as the Hayabusa rear engined beast that Tricky will build but I'll deal with that.

Mokesta,

That would be very similar to the Auusie Racing Cars setup.

They run a Yamaha FJ1200 engine, latitudinally mounted (east-west), in the front to drive through the standard 5-speed sequential Yamaha gearbox, through a solid propshaft to either a Corolla or Celica (cant remember which) live rear axle.

As everyone knows these things go like a scalded cat with 125bhp on tap and their 450kg race weight. This gives a power to weight ratio of 3.6kg per hp

So, if you took your 153hp Kwaka and put it into a brick weighing, say 650kg, this would give you a power to weight ratio of 4.2kg per hp!!! Not bad considering a Lotus Exige S has a P2W of 4.27kg per hp, and its supercharged and intercooled and costs very close to $100k.

Go for it I say!!! Mind you the turbo charged Busa should have the P2A of a Lambourghini Murcialago! Lucky Matt's driving!

Tricky, the Aussie legends engines (say that 10 times fast) :-) are mopunted Nth-Sth,,, they run a deap socket like tube/snout/flange affair that bolts up (through the inside of the tube snout thing) directly to where the front sprocket would have been in a bike, & then the tail shaft bolts to the flange on the end of that tube/snout thing

very prehistoric steering system too,,, multi u/js with the columm winding it`s way down a couple of u/js,,,then forwards under the engines, another couple of u/js, the back up to the rack mounted in front of the front wheels

YuK & Horrible !!! is all i can say.

Mark,,, only 153hp ,,,,PPPpppffft,,, you got nothing mate :-) :-) :-)

Matt,

Thanks for correcting me on that, I thought they mounted them east-west.

Yes, I have heard they are very primitive in a lot of their componentry. I guess that's what makes them affordable. Still, it will be nothing compared to the 'Busa - now we have to sort where we can get Ohlins Type 46's from cheap!!

Cheers,
Tricky

on the topic of these gearboxes with reverse, why cant we use a normal gearbox off a small FWD car like a CB70 gearbox or a
We can select the particular gear we cant, get rid of all the other gears, machine the bell housing etc etc to get rid of the excess weight. Put in the diff we want and ready to go.

Just curious as to how much a 4efte gearbox weighs? Some of those reversible gearboxes not not feather light either..

Cheers
