could you not adapt the rear diff from a different car? as long as the ratio is close to the donor car (with the solid rear axle) wouldnt it be ok?

You could. However, I solid axle rear end can be modify to 'mock' an IRS. I would be more inclined to do this to the 'rolla set up before finding something else, modifying it to fit, then match the gearing.

If it's awd you desire, there are less challenging options than the Toyota route, IMO.

such as the honda? what other options are there? i think awd is more or less off the cards for this build...unless i wanna ditch the 4efte i've already invested loads of time and money into...perhaps for the next mini awd will be the go :P

The gold one in Sydney selling shows a market for the product you are producing. It you are unsatisfied with the results...sell it, build another. :D

especially since it will be a roundnose...not too many of those using the 4efte kicking around...even by the time i finish (end of this yr hopefully) it will be pretty rare...certainly if it was on sale...

btw i have no interest in selling it :) as long as its still fun to drive...

skssgn - What are the go fast option available to your thing? Are you able to fit a VTEC head and fooool injection?

I lurk on the honda forums, and I'm liking what I'm finding out.... the 1.5l motor I have is a short stroke compared to the 1.6, and has a bullet proof bottom end...

Hondas respond exceptionally well to turbocharging, VTEC heads are easy to get for my motor, I can bolt on injection off a Concerto for $150, extractors are dime-a-dozen, Tighe have a hot cam profile, there are honda tuners about that actually know more than how to put a rice cannon and neons on

I reckon I'll turbo it eventually, so won't bother with VTEC, they say VTEC is counter productive for turbo, the money is better spent elsewhere.... so I'm starting with a pair of webers, might get some cheap extractors depending on space, and go from there

I've always liked Hondas...

SK, make sure you put the webers on after you get the Engineers Certificate and registration. Or VicRoads may demand an emissions test. They don't like post-76 engines with non-standard carbs, even if it is in a pre-76 car.

Hi Simon,

Couple of questions:

What exactly is the configuration for the D15b4 motor, i.e. bore x stroke and comp ratio

Also I have heard that rods a problem once fool hp is reached.

How you going to mount your rear end (my goodness that sounds rude!!!)

Cheers,
Andrew

1, it's pretty well square, comp ratio is somewhere around 9.2 : 1, so good for boost or raising the compression, when the d16 dohc came out, they raised the compression so they could get the same power as the d15 sohc

2. I reckon that's bullshit, but oodles of trick bottom end stuff available in USA

3. 1st or 2nd page in this thread has a pic.... I'm gonna keep my rear end nice and stock, it'll be the prettiest rear end you ever saw

Hi Floss,

Yeah the jigs up - thats me. Intend to put the drivetrain under the Mini ala Skssgn (Simon). Engineer has already signed of on the idea (another lengthy methodology thesis to be submitted!!).

Got it for the princely sum of$630.

It arrived home on Saturday and to my disdain - the car is in PC (no reallt, even new tyres, just ask JC).

So I am now thinking it may be too good to use in a Mini, and may well just get it running and then sell for a profit. Anyone interested??

Dont know yet.

A big thanks to JC for his help on Saturday, and also with picking up the new mini shell from Jeffs.

Cheers,
Andrew
